Specially since this was a single release, and not a combo one with Tsubasa. XXXHOLiC has definitely got some huge popularity over the last months, and very soon it will be crossing the mark of 8.000.000 of copies sold. Congratulations, CLAMP! ^___^

Given how vocal HOLiC fans are, which is about 1/3 of TRC’s fans, I sometimes find it hard to believe that HOLiC has so many sales.
So does it depend on the type of fans that read HOLiC?

Over the last weeks I´ve been asking myselfs about Holic´s success, my conclusion is that it is the kind of story with the kind of elements japanese people -at mostly any ages- would hook up to…

What elements would that be? Apart from that, the anime have helped a lot too.

There are shintou elemnts all over the place, kudakitsune, the warashi´s, the fox family, Yuuko´s speech somethimes reminds probervs… what i was trying to say is that it isn´t just a good series, interesting, well drawn or well told, it is ALSO a story that “fits” perfectly in the country´s idiosincracy (yes I went to word reference for that word and I´m not ashamed to tell it XD) at some point… or so i like to think xD

Oh yeah, the cultural and folkloric elements! It must be cool to read stories about that…. most of them are a mystery to us, but the japanese are familiar with them ^^
