Mokona’s Cocktails Creations

Mokona’s latest passion is preparing cocktails ^^ She’s been posting her creations on her Private Board along with their respective recipes. I posted the images in my previous post and I was requested by chiapetzukamori-san to post along the recipes too. They are in japanese, of course ^^

If you want to contribute by translating one or two recipe, you’re more than welcome (but there’s no need to worry about it ^_~)

The Devil’s Drink’s picture.

Hot Eggnogg – Bild [? I guess it’s the main ingredient?]
Dark Rum 30ml
Brandy – 15ml
egg yolk – 1 unity
sugar – 2 teaspoons [I think]
Milk – proper quantity [I’m taking it to mean it’s up to us]

Though I had all of those, I made it with white rum.
As it was written that sweetness made it tasty [? guessing here], I added honey.
Though it was also written to separate the yolk and the white of the egg, mix the yolk with the other ingredients, then whip the white (merengue?) and add it, it was written it was alright to mix it all anyway, and as it was too much trouble and the tea strainer was a better option, I foamed the whole egg [with a machine], and it caused some foam with the other ingredients (mixing standard [?? guessing here]).
I added some stirred up and warmed milk.

Though the alcohol is very strong when hot, after cooling down it falls to a pleasant level. Must be good when you have a cold.

GELGOUG (shaker)(A/N: no idea what this is, Google says it’s a… Gundam?? XDD)

Ingredients
2/5 dry gin
1/5 lemon juice
2/5 guava juice (A/N: apparently it’s a tropical fruit, you can get it bottled in Japan)

The instructions to this were written like a real cocktail in a bar. So it’s really an exclusive one. It’s also pink. The recipe emphasized the use of a shaker and really, if you use a shaker the taste will be milder. I squeezed the lemon juice from whole lemons. I bought the guava juice at Natural House. From a small bottle you can make twice as much Gelgoug. (smile)

KIR ROYAL

Since I had some cheap rose champagne, I tried to make Kir Royal. You only have to pour champagne and blackcurrant cream liqueor (Cassis) together. If you take 1.5x more of pink champange, it becomes redder…?

Translated by

MIMOSA

Ingredients
60 ml orange juice
60 ml champagne

“Put the orange juice into a glass and add the champagne.” That’s what it said, but since I had some real oranges, I squeezed them in! It seems it can be done a lot of ways. Next time I think I’ll use some 100% fruit juice. Will the taste change a bit, I wonder..?

Brandy milk punch: 1 part brandy, 3 parts milk, 1 tsp powdered sugar. They recommend nutmeg, too. I will never know what those instructions mean, but it looks from the picture like they did that starbucksy type steaming to the milk.

TEX COLLINS

How to Make (Shake)

Ingredients
Dry Gin – 11/12oz
(It isn’t a can with a dense 2oz. measurement cup. 45ml?) [I didn’t get this line at all…]
Grapefruit Juice – 1/2 of one fruit
Honey – 1tsp
Soda – proper quantity

This time, it is combined/divided with soda.
It is. Last time, the 18 litres was a special case (as for that thing with that thing). [This line lost me]
It is easy and refreshing to drink.

TEX COLLINS

Ingredients
11/2oz dry gin
I didn’t really get how much the cup measurement “2 oz” is. 45 ml?)

juice of 1/2 a grapefruit
1tsp honey

Soda in proper quantity… that wasn’t written in the recipe, so I just took a low glass with ice inside it. As for the one in the champagne glass, I put blackcurrant cream liqueor (Cassis) on the bottom and then poured the rest on it. It becomes layered!

Since it doesn’t have soda in it… it’s not a proper Tex Collins, right? An undiluted Tex Colllins maybe..? In the end, the taste is pretty strong (obviously..!) but delicious.

GIN FIXX

How to Make (Shake)

Ingredients
Dry Gin 45ml
Lemon Juice 20 ml
Sugar 2 tsp
Soda proper quantity [..up to you to decide?]
Lemon 1 sheet [???]

By the way, the regular store-bought gin fizzes alot when you make this.
First, shake everything except the soda.
Pour it into a glass with ice, pouring the soda in last.
It’s profitable when completed.
Unepectedly, there is a feeling catching in excess [I have no clue]
Also the ice is catching together, is this alright?!

GIN FIZZ

Ingredients
45ml dry gin
20ml lemon juice
2tsp sugar
soda in proper quantity
lemon 1 slice

Let’s try to make a standard gin fizz! First shake everything but the soda together. Pour it into a glass filled with ice, then add the soda. Stir it a bit and it’s ready. Surprisingly you can drink it down at once. The ice doesn’t last too long either!

HONEYBEE

How to Make (Shake)

Ingredients
White Rum 3/6
Lemon Juice 2/6
Honey 1/6

1/6 th … (sweat)

White Rum 3/6 is 30ml, Lemon Juice is 20ml.
I am assuming this will still work [I fumbled on this line.. It might be off a little…]

Honey 10 ml…. (cascading sweat)

Is this enough intensity?!
Why is the honey decreasing?
It was made according to the recipe, but-!!!
Unintentionally, it’s a little on the sweet-side. Dense, too.
Isn’t this an undiluted solution? Drinking it made my throat dry/me thirsty. [I’m guessing its a drink that makes you more thirtsy..? like sunny-d…?]
When combining, you don’t need to divide with soda or water.

It is done when the remainder is concentrated/thick.
Making it in order at a bar really brings out its true taste, don’t you think?

  2. Sorry to be random, I was set this task by a friend of translating the recipes.

2nd drink: 2 parts dry gin, 2 parts guava juice, 1 part lemon juice
3rd drink: Equal amounts creme de cassis and champagne
4th drink: Mimosa! Equal amounts orange juice and champagne
5th drink: (sidecar?) 2 parts brandy, 1 part each cointreau and lemon juice. I think the note after cointreau is saying that less of it is ok.
6th drink: (god this took forever) Brandy milk punch: 1 part brandy, 3 parts milk, 1 tsp powdered sugar. They recommend nutmeg, too. I will never know what those instructions mean, but it looks from the picture like they did that starbucksy type steaming to the milk.
7th drink: For the first time in this exercise, it’s the alcohol that’s giving me trouble… it says a-do-vo-ka-a-to, which can only look like “advocate” to me, which isn’t a booze I know. Anyway, 2 parts “advocate” to 3 parts milk, and a teaspoon honey, served in a cocktail glass. They say to stir it if you want it hot, but if you want it cold, to shake it.

All right, my unique blend of insomnia, japanese, and alcoholism is exhausted.

    • The alcoholic drink causing the confusion is “Advocaat”.
It’s a bright yellow liquer largely consisting of egg yolk. It’s very sweet, very sickly and not very nice. Advocaat is the main ingrediant in “Snowballs”, a cocktail that was quite popular in the cheesier part of the eighties – you pour a dollop of Advocaat (can’t be more precise) into a tall glass and add lemonade, the drink then goes white, creamy and kinda frothy. I’m not keen on Snowballs, but they have a certain nostalgia value as the alcoholic drink the landlady at my village pub would occasionally serve to minors as a “special treat”. You can pick up Advocaat most places (in the British Isles anyway) pretty cheaply, particularly round Christmas.

Thanks for the cocktail translations Phantom, and for the Spoilers Chibiyuuto (can’t wait for Celes, grin). Sorry about posting anonymously, I can’t seem to log in to my LJ properly this morning.
