I saw this post today at Ohkawa’s Private Board and I found it very interesting so I thought I might post it here as well ^^
Ohkawa says she’s the type that likes to listen to music while she’s working on a script. According to her, she could even work while listening to the TV sound, comedy or variety shows don’t affect the production of a serious manga whatsoever.
However, when it comes to important parts of the story, she likes to handpick songs specially for the occasion in order to improve the concentration. She says she sets the song to repeat endlessly ^^
For Tsubasa, she listened to Sign a lot, from Chihiro Onitsuka, during the time she was writing the script for chapter 13th of Volume 2 (this is the chapter where Sakura wakes up for the first time).
For volume 13, the one with Kurogane’s past, she listened to 「轍-WADACHI-」, from the band DA PUMP. It was chosen more for the tune/rhythm rather than the lyrics.
Right now, while she writes the most recent chapter of the Tokyo arc, she’s listening to Maaya Sakamoto’s Spica. Maaya Sakamoto wrote the lyrics as if Sakura were to sing it to Syaoran. But right now, Ohkawa thinks this song applies to everybody’s feelings (Fye, Kurogane… everybody who’s been traveling with them, I mean). Therefore, she’s been listening to it a lot lately.
Lastly, she adds that she already picked the song she’ll listen to when she writes Fye’s past. *smirks* (This was me, not her xD)
What do you think? ^__^ I thought it was very interesting, since I love everything related to their creation process.
A few notes:
– By that we can conclude that the gang will remain at Tokyo for a little more (since she’s still writing it’s chapters).
– Very interesting the songs related to chapter 13 and Kurogane’s past. I confess when I first read of DA PUMP’s, I thought “DA PUMP??? O.o”, but then after I listened to the song, it made me go “Of course !”. Please listen to it if you could ^^
– I hope she posts later which song she used for Fye’s past, and for the fact that she already chose it, I’m assuming we might be seeing it soon *-*
– A hug to Sakura-chan for clarifying a doubt I had during the translation, thanks ^__^

If a song gives good inspiration, I can listen to it for hours on end without getting sick of it. ^.^
Maybe it’s a girl combined with some other psychological aspect thing. Sarah Ash is the same way, from what I understand.

That’s so cool. I always associate happenings, characters, feelings with certain songs, so it’s great to hear that Ohkawa does it the same way. 🙂
Wadachi is indeed a nice song, especially the music. I want to know what she chose for Fai’s past… But even more that that I want to SEE Fai’s past soon! 🙂

I like this info a lot also, thank you for sharing it! I can sometimes listen to just ONE song on repeat for over two days ^^; Because I pick specfic songs for what I’m writing or drawing also. So however long the picture takes to finish- that’s how long the same song keeps playing XD Hahaha, it drives my family crazy though. They get annoyed of most songs after the third time it repeats.
I really hope she posts what song she chose for Fai’s past also. Makes me anxious that it might be revealed soon! XD Ehehehe, I hopes it’s not too much of a tragic song though >__>;;;

Hahaha XD I hate silence, I cannot work in silence, ever. So sometimes I even accidentally leave a song on repeat and don’t notice until someone yells at me ^^;; I can’t work without noise…. it is strange, I guess o_o;;;

X3 woots, I love to write too, and when I write I do the same thing o.o I always pick a special song for a special moment, and if I don’t find another that suits that special moment, I keep listening to the same one endlessly, which means…more than 3 hours or else until I finish writing, but I know many people who likes to write do the same thing, so I’m not that surprised for that XD, but! I can listen the the same song over and over again if I’m working on something that requires quite a bit of concentration (like working on a layout for hours non-stop). For the most part it’s just a certain playlist that I repeat, but if the song’s new enough I can repeat it for quite a while. I can’t listen to the same song over and over again if I’m just doing ordinary things though, I’d go insane in that case. XD
It’s interesting to see what she listens to while she’s working on the story, helps to understand the mood.

Weird! Songs that I listen to will inspire me sometimes (the lyrics don’t even have to apply, mostly it’s the tune, so even J-pop works), but when I listen to them when actually writing, I get super-distracted. I wonder if I’m alone in that.

Good to know I’m not the only one! But it’s weird, because I get distracted by the same songs that inspired me to write in the first place.
