We are getting spoiled every chapter with a new title page. First time Maru and Moro appear on a title page since the return of XXXHOLiC. They were drawn in a style that looks nothing like Clear Card.
I never realized that Watanuki has only dreamed once with Yuuko ever since he came back to the shop. Does he mean after the events of Nirai Kanai? Come to think of it, why is that Watanuki can meet Haruka in a dream, who is also dead, but not Yuuko? I honestly don’t remember if this has been explained before.
Since he became the shopkeeper, Watanuki is always well-dressed (hello? CLAMP character), but these clothes in particular are very nice, with his bird motif.
We are reminded that the Zashiki Warashi-lookalike is still in the shop, sleeping (and occasionally shifting around in her sleep).
We also learn that Mokona is keeping an eye on the book during the night. Which means not even Seoritsu-hime seems to be doing so xD (no sign of Seoritsu-hime in this chapter, by the way…)
Mokona tells Watanuki that he will be informed should anything dangerous happen (around/from the book), then Mokona ominously asks Watanuki to inform everyone should “anything” happen… o.O
Maru and Moro are looking extra fabulous with these clothes. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the only frame we will see these clothes xD CLAMP really spare no efforts when drawing clothes even if they last for only one frame ♡
The creepy client who sees her deceased husband coming back home every day is back at the shop. Apparently the solution Watanuki gave her did not work — except we don’t know what he gave her. But the client confesses that she might have wanted for it to not work (meaning she wants to keep seeing her husband).
Once again, the scene is cut and we don’t see the outcome of Watanuki and the lady’s conversation.
Watanuki thinks of Yuuko when he repeats to himself what the lady told him, about wanted her deceased husband to come back home (and again, we see Yuuko wearing a fabulous, gorgeous never-before-worn dress that we will probably never see again).
All these parallels and mirrored situations… they are becoming a little too apparent…
Before the end of the chapter, Watanuki tells Doumeki that there is something in his shrine’s warehouse that he wants. I’m assuming it’s for the client and not for the Zashiki Warashi plot, considering he said a few chapters ago that he already had “everything” for it… but we never know and these cases might be more connected than we think…
Once again our typical-by-now set of 14 pages for this chapter. 146 pages so far for volume 5. There are probably only 2 chapters left to complete volume 5.
XXXHOLiC Rei is a biweekly serialization. Next chapter will be released on August 3rd.

It’s been a while since Yuuko appeared, though once “in the past” according to Watanuki.

Do you have any idea if they’ll keep publishing xxxHOLiC-Rei with the old style covers? I looked it up at clamp-net.com and there is no info about it, and the Rei Entry is as finished, but the Premium Collection is in publishing. I’d like to keep my collection coherent T_T

I am pretty sure they will keep the old style. You shouldn’t take their website that seriously right now, it’s lacking some updates =/

I hope so 🙂

I think Watanuki might be steering himself towards Clow’s path: his past mistake of not letting Yuuko go. This could explain why Yuuko hasn’t talked to him in dreams. He needs to let her go. He knows that, but his heart isn’t ready yet. Clow, the first arc of Rei, this woman and her husband, the book’s power… I feel there’s a strong connection here.
