TRC 182 !

Cleaned scans, those of ladydarkmoon-san can be found at The Room of Requirement.

Another volume ends…

They’re staying one more chapter at Nihon, for “packing” xD Just as expected… so we get a nice little farewell chat between Kurogane and Tomoyo, their relationship is so heart-warming, and Kurogane gets the real Ginryu back! So it wasn’t buried with his mother back then? Okay, I will restrain myself from saying that’s very convenient xD

But it’ll be interesting to see Kurogane, or should I say “Hawk King”, using his father’s sword (which is supposedly stronger). They saved the best for the last.

“That time” Yuuko-san spoke about is still many days away. (taken from inarikami-san translations)

Noooo~ This is Ohkawa telling us “It looks like the end, folks, but we’re still 5 volumes away from it” xD

THE CLOTHES!!! THE CLOTHES!!! *points*!!!

CLAMP has this thing for giving their characters their original clothes once the end is approaching, going back to basics. Alright, maybe it’s not a thing but they have done it with X too xD

To see Fye and Kurogane’s clothes was surprising but it was nothing compared to Syaoran, there’s a full page dedicated to his arrival and the atmosphere is built panel by panel, from his approaching steps, to his waving hand making his cloak flutter, then to his full body view and finally a close up to his eye. This is like, TADAAA!

This is CLAMP telling us “HE IS THE SYAORAN FROM THE TUBE! THIS IS HOW HE IS WEARING THE CLOW COSTUME! WE FOOLED YOU ALL! Oh and soon we’ll also show you all how he became all beat up like that.”

I’m so happy to find out that Real!Syaoran is the Syaoran from the beginning of Volume 1. It’s what I both guessed and hoped for. I think this pretty much gives away that the first scene WILL eventually happen sometime in the future, which is another thing I really hoped for, in case anyone thought otherwise. There’s so many things hidden in that first scene, it was so clever to use as an opening scene, it just sort of shows how genius Ohkawa is for planning everything from the begining.

But what a twist, who would have thought, when Tsubasa began, that that Syaoran could be a different one. I know I haven’t! XD Every time you fool me, you own another piece of my soul, CLAMP.

There’s only once chance…
To enter the stopped time in Clow Country.
Don’t waste the chance Watanuki paid for with his memories.
The chance to go where Fei Wang is.

Wow, that sounds interesting… I want to read more!

So they are going straight to the stopped time of Clow Country? No more crossovers, then? Is this the final world, too? I guess not, there’s still the conclusion of Seishirou’s side-story, after all.

Volume 23 is over, yoshi, 5 more to go! My prediction is still on the table, and there’s no need to make a new one, yet…

Before leaving, I would like to give my congratulations for otacon_san, who’s celebrating another birthday! Happy Birthday!! I hope you had a great day and I wish you a happy life ^^ (so many birthdays lately xD)

  1. I think I need to start and end every comment here with this:

    I love you, CLAMP.

I changed my mind. I think Watanuki is Fei Wang’s child. Or I tyhink that for now…but it has this whole, “someone I loved is doing something that needs to be stopped” vibe, to me. And he and Syaoran can be childhood friends, or even cousins if Syaoran’s dad is Clow.

    I love you, CLAMP.

    • Watanuki, Fei Wang’s kid? I once thought Real!Syaoran was FWR’s son, but not Watanuki. Kyle sort of reminds Watanuki xD

And I love CLAMP too, they are simply fantastic plotters!

      • Maybe he’s Fei Wang and Kyle’s love-child, and that’s why Fei Wang hasn’t killed Kyle yet, even though he keeps screwing up.

  2. When they say ‘one chance’ that makes me think that only one of them will make it in >_<

Also 5 volumes left (from what you predict) I can't imagine what else will happen (: But I think we can tell that it definitely will not end with just Sakura floating away from the tube.

    Waiting for 20pgs a week is so much more painful than waiting for an anime to air in Spring or an episode to get subbed @.@;

    • >When they say ‘one chance’ that makes me think that only one of them will make it in >_<

You're right o.o The last time Yuuko said "50/50 chance", Sakura got split in half o_o

Sometimes I think 5 volumes is way too much, and sometimes I think it's just about right. There's a lot of battle scenes coming up, and that always takes a lot of pages, there's the end of Seishirou's story, the conclusion (lots of explanations), and I think we should see some of what happened to each character when everything is over. I think 5 volumes is just about right.

      • Yeah – it may end up like the first time but with Yukito and Touya, Syaoran makes it in and then the other two are left to fend for themselves ;___; (maybe this time have Moko-chan screaming in the background going SYAAOOORAANNNNN~)

It makes me extremely upset thinking that it will end soon T_T… I can’t bear it (Though 5 chapters is hardly soon… but it is! It issss!)!

  3. Must have more. Must read more.

I always thought that the tube scene was some sort of a vision either from the past or the future, I hardly think it was a dream. However, Sakura in CCS had yumemi abilities, so it could have been a dream as well. I loved that opening sequence. I can’t wait to see the rest.

LOL, this reminds me of a plastic bubbles simulator where you had to, well, blown the bubbles xD And when you clicked on “new sheet”, a voice came out saying “Must have more”. /random

      >I always thought that the tube scene was some sort of a vision either from the past or the future

Me too. I always thought it was a scene of the future, and that the story would build itself towards that scene so that in the end we would know exactly why it happened and its importance. I just love that kind of story-telling.

Tsubasa for me was a complete surprise, in the sense that something that appeared so light and *gasps* dare I say it Pokemon(ish) turned out to be so epic and breathtaking. Once again CLAMP proved they deserve my undying love and I don’t remember the last time I was so excited about a manga.

  4. Hi Chibi Yuuto!

Thank you for the clean scans! I also like your chapter prediction 😀 I do that often as well! Here is my summary of Tsubasa. Enjoy 😀

Once, there was a princess of Clow country named Sakura. She had the power to change the world. There was also Shaoran that lived in the same world as Sakura, but maybe not the same country. He also had some magical powers of his own.

    THE VILLAIN
Fei Wang Reed wanted to acquire the power to cross dimensions and he wished to bring back one who had died. For that wish to be granted, he needed something buried in the ruins of Clow (probably Sakura’s soul) and Sakura’s body. Sakura’s body needed to travel across different worlds to create memories and come back to Fei Wang Reed in the end. I am guessing that her body engraved with dimensions will act as a compass to help Fei Wang to travel space and time in order to revive someone.

THE ESCORT : THE CLONE SHAORAN
Sakura also needed some companion for such a risky time-space journey. Since Shaoran was especially strong because of his magical abilities, Fei Wang chose him to accompany Sakura. Somehow, Shaoran knew of Reed’s evil plan, maybe because he had prescient abilities. Therefore, he could possibly have hindered Fei Wang Reed’s plan. Consequently, Fei Wang imprisoned Shaoran and created a clone of him who would go on the journey with Sakura. This clone carried the same magical powers as the original but was only in itself an empty shell without a soul. The original Shaoran was fortunately able to give his heart to the clone.

    THE MEETING
The clone arrived to Clow country as an orphan. Fujitaka adopted him and treated him as his son. Clone Shaoran got to meet Sakura and become best friends with her. All this time the clone had no heart really from himself, but he had the potential to develop one. Through the time he was in captivity, the original Shaoran was watching by clone Shaoran’s right eye what was happening, and maybe even experiencing the events through the clone.

    THE BACK-UP SAKURA
Since Sakura was very important for Fei Wang’s wish to be granted and since the journey was very dangerous, he decided to clone her to have a duplicate in case something happened to her, but he cloned her differently than what he did for Shaoran. When Sakura was drawn by a special wing engraving in Clow’s ruins and made magically temporarily captive, Fei Wang attempted to copy both Sakura’s body and soul. Unfortunately, that was too hard to do, and as soon as the replica was created, the body of the original Sakura disintegrated, leaving only the original soul. As for the soul of the replica, it scattered into feathers to different worlds so as to force clone Shaoran to retrieve them to save the princess’s life. This way, he would escort and protect clone Sakura’s precious body across different dimensions allowing that body to make memories in all the visited worlds.

THE AWAKENING or THE SWAPPING OF THE SHAORANS
At some point in the quest, the original Shaoran awakens from his spell and finds his clone in Tokyo. The clone ejects his borrowed heart which is retrieved by the original. Clone Shaoran gives back clone Sakura another feather. He then leaves Tokyo to another dimension having no feelings but only the will to retrieve the scattered memory feathers. Thanks to the last feather found, clone Sakura retrieves the memory of being created from an original Sakura. From then on, she does not want real Shaoran to love her since the soul of the real Sakura is waiting for him…

    THE DREAM
Further on in the story, clone Sakura sacrifices herself to save the original Shaoran. Hence, her body is seriously injured allowing her soul to go into the dream world. The real Shaoran also gains access to the dream thanks to the feather that Seishirou had. That feather is the one that previously made the virtual world become real. Somehow, clone Shaoran also makes it into the dream world, maybe because he has no soul, so he is not completely human, thus part of a dream. Or maybe thanks to his increasing powers.

    • Here’s the other half !

      THE ENORMOUS LOSS
Clone Shaoran takes back the feather in real Shaoran, which makes Nihon and the dream world merge together and collapse. Clone Sakura’s soul is destroyed by both Shaorans fighting each other. Clone Sakura disappears into clone Shaoran’s arms telling him she loves him. She also tells him, that since they both are replicas, if both originals continue to live, everything is not over. Clone Shaoran seems to suffer from his heart. Did he develop a heart? Did Sakura’s soul become his heart? Probably not, but who knows… As for the body of the clone Sakura, Kyle retrieves it and brings it back to Fei Wang. Since clone Sakura passed away, the feather left by her in Tokyo might be unimportant by now, although Kyle catched and brought the last feather it with him.

FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END
The story starts with original Sakura and real Shaoran’s heart inside cloned Shaoran’s body. The manga might end with original Shaoran and real Sakura’s heart inside cloned Sakura’s body!!

      FEI WANG’S HIDEOUT
Each time a new country is presented to the reader, a feather shape appears on the page to indicate the name of that new country. Interestingly enough, on page 56 of the first volume, we switch from Clow country to Fei Wang’s hideout without any country name indication. And now, Yuuko revealed that Fei Wong’s Wong location is Clow country, in a world within seperated time! If that makes sense, I wonder why there is no naming of Yuuko’s Japan when the companions arrive there. Maybe because the story clearly tells us that it is the country of the witch of dimensions. Or maybe because that world is also somehow closely related to the country of Clow?

Demo, I have a few doubts:

        >The story starts with original Sakura and real Shaoran’s heart inside cloned Shaoran’s body.

Inside cloned Syaoran’s body? Isn’t it clear now that the one from the beginning is the real Syaoran?

        >Interestingly enough, on page 56 of the first volume, we switch from Clow country to Fei Wang’s hideout without any country name indication.

About that, I think they just couldn’t and wouldn’t give away his hideout so early xD

As nostalgic as it is to see them in their old clothes, it’s really weird too because they look almost the same as they were, but they aren’t the same. I mean, aside from all their character development, physically Kurogane’s got a metal arm, Fai’s missing an eye, and Syaoran is a different person altogether.

Clamp, can we please have some more new crossovers? Pretty please?

So damn true. Like T.S. Eliot said, “The end is where we start from.”

So the tube scene from the beginning is going to come true after all. The end is near. I’m excited.

  9. Random questions

Hi again! I have two unrelated questions, so if you don’t have time to answer them, no problem at all 😉
1- Is there a reason why Kobato releases are called exams, chapters or drops?
2- Is there any signification in the uppercases / lowercases in Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE?

    Arigato!

    Like

    • Re: Random questions

Hi again! Here I am answering your questions ^^

      1. Well, the reason is because since Kobato.’s serialization restarted in Newtype, CLAMP decided to rename the chapters, probably to avoid a conflict with those published previously in Sunday GX (there was already a “Chapter 1”, if you know what I mean.

Exams covers the arc where Kobato is going through tests to obtain the bottle that will allow her to start her mission, and Drops refers to the little pieces that goes inside her bottle when she heals someone. How many “drops” does she need to fill her bottle? I think that’s the idea.

      2. I don’t think there’s any significance in the upper and lower cases from Tsubasa’s titles other than pure stetic. But it’s CLAMP, we never know, Chobits had a reason for having only the “tsu” in katakana (in “Chobitsu”).

  10. Ooh, I’m excited. But at the same time, I’m confused: didn’t the clone!Syaoran wear the clothes that R!Syaoran is wearing? So, how do we know that that’s the R!Syaoran in the tube?

…Hmm…. they tried to portray and mislead us (successfully) into thinking R-Syaoran-in-the-tank was something evil too… it could be CLAMP trying to trick us into thinking this and that… I’m still withholding judgement until Yuuko directly says so xD

When I saw chapter 182, I was reminded of a converation I had with an online friend a year ago about Syaoran’s goggles. In the tube scene in chapter 1 I noticed that Syaoran didn’t have his goggles. And right now, the real Syaoran had goggles. Do you think that is an important detail that CLAMP missed out? Or maybe Syaoran will lose the goggles in some way…

Anyway, I don’t know if my question is silly or not… just ignore this is you find it silly…

He looks very beaten up too, Syaoran, maybe he fought with someone before that scene, which would explain losing his gloves and googles ^^

      >Anyway, I don’t know if my question is silly or not… just ignore this is you find it silly…

Not AT ALL! This is such an important detail, in my point of view!! Trust me, CLAMP will show you exactly how he missed his googles and gloves. Those ladies don’t miss a single detail.

But what about real!Sakura how Syaoran will get her if she vanished??? I hope that solution of this will be really good.
I am not sure now what about Seishirou’s side-story? I really wouldn’t like to see him with twins to make their own business also in Clow Country. But I am sure that ms.Ohkawa will give us everything to solve all stories (side and main).
I think that TRC will finish after 2-3 tankoubons. And the last chapter could be chapter 200, but in 25 tankoubon with 10 chapters not 9 xd

  15. So Kurogane’s real name is You-Ou, that sound like a name our of Rg Veda. It makes me wonder if his mother isn’t a japanese version of Kisshouten… likely not. ^^;

    >So they are going straight to the stopped time of Clow Country? No more crossovers, then? Is this the final world, too? I guess not, there’s still the conclusion of Seishirou’s side-story, after all.

Well, there’s still that staff Syaoran is carrying on many illustration that haven’t appear in the story so far, there may be something about it. Plus Fay haven’t retrieved his eye and staff, although he does have them on the pictures where Syaoran has his staff (on the top of my head, the picture from the ad for the series, the deluxe tankoubon covers and the poster for the first DS game). Kurogane is whole, but Syaoran and Fay are yet to be “completed”.

So I guess, even if they go for Feiwang’s castle right away, they’ll have many things to do there. Tokyo’s part lasted three thankoubon, the Piffle World two, Feiwang Read’s world may last longer than that. Also, they still have a few days before they go to Feiwang Read’s dimension, the twins and/or clone!Syaoran may spawn to get their stories a conclusion. And there’s at least one feather missing, the one in Tokyo.

But that being said, Clamp can fasten the pace for the ending of a story, the last two tankoubon of Rg Veda, the 11th one of Sakura, the final chapters of Wish or Suki. Dakara Suki, the final chapter of Tokyo Babylon or Angelic Layer, Chobits’ final in less than a tankoubon, all were bullet ending compare to the pace of the rest of the series. I wouldn’t put it past them to end the series within two books.

    • You really think it’s his real name? You-ou? I thought it was just Tomoyo giving him a warrior title.

      >Well, there’s still that staff Syaoran is carrying on many illustration that haven’t appear in the story so far, there may be something about it.

The infamous staff, indeed. It HAS to appear, it MUST be important somehow. You know, I was thinking that it might be the “Tsubasa”, the thing that controls space and time that FWR wants so much.

      >Plus Fay haven’t retrieved his eye and staff, although he does have them on the pictures where Syaoran has his staff

Hum… but do you really think he’ll get them back? I mean, he could get one back from the clone but the other has been given away to Yuuko, so was the staff. Don’t you think those pictures are only for promotional use?

      >Feiwang Read’s world may last longer than that

I definitely agree. Plus, 28 volumes people, it’s not going to be that easy. Syaoran looks beaten up in the tube scene, which means there’s a big struggle before getting inside it.

      >I wouldn’t put it past them to end the series within two books.

Yes, CLAMP is very unpredictable. I’m guessing on 28, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be less or more. I think we’ll get a clearer idea by the next chapter.

That was an absolutely amazing chapter! I can’t even begin to describe how much I loved every single panel, each seemed more carefully drawn than usual (though I think that may just be me being overexcited, heh heh).

    >”HE IS THE SYAORAN FROM THE TUBE! THIS IS HOW HE IS WEARING THE CLOW COSTUME! WE FOOLED YOU ALL! Oh and soon we’ll also show you all how he became all beat up like that.”
Yes, CLAMP! How well you fooled us! I’m so glad it’s R!Syaoran ^^

It was good to see Kurogane getting a bit of attention too ^^ I love the tension CLAMP creates when the characters are jointly motivated. They look so wonderfully determined on the last page… XD

Curse that double week break! I can’t wait for the colour pages! ^,^

  19. LOL,yeahp R!syaoran looks sexy in those clothes,though..it seems wrong for me..i guess i just feel guilty about it,cuz i wanted R!syaoran to b the one in the tube thing, and now,it has happened xDD so..ack! my heart hurst xD!

But it’ll be interesting to see Kurogane, or should I say “Hawk King”
rly??? i though the sword was named “hawk king” instead of “gynriu”!,not Kuro’s real name to be “hawk king”!! @___@

    • I don’t get it xD Didn’t you wish for it? XD I’m actually very happy that one of my theories is, apparently, true ^^

      I don’t think it’s Kuro’s real name… more like his warrior title ^_~

Anyway!! *dies from the chapter* Soooo awesome! *_*

It didn’t occur to me that R!Syaoran was the one in the tube at the beginning until you said that, but I can totally see it. How awesome. CLAMP, I love you XDDD

Thanks for the scans and the great review! *passes out waiting for 183 and the color pages* o___o

  22. Why “Hawn King” you said??
I read it in another forum and I didn’t get it.
Why Kurogane now is called that way??
    Thanks
