The “big news” regarding Kobato., published in this month’s Newtype magazine, was the announcement that the stories of “Kobato.” and “Kobato (Temporary)” are going to be unified.
That was very predictable, I’d say. Not so big news, then. I assume this unification will happen once the current tankoubon is completed, and I presume that what’s been published in Sunday GX under the title of “Kobato (Temporary)” will not be published again in Newtype. Instead, they’ll most likely release it directly into tankoubon and the story will continue in Newtype where we left at the end of the “(Temporary)” story (what a mess! xD).
Also in the “big news” category, information about future tankoubon releases are expected to come in the next issue of Newtype, ou on October 10th.
This news were part of the 15-pages CLAMP feature, that also includes information on CLAMP IN WONDERLAND 2, Tsubasa OADs, XXXHOLiC 2nd Series (nothing new, though) and a brand-new Kobato illustration.

it’s very cool it’s finally coming together…however, it was indeed expected, and it has become a bit messy, also tiring to wait every month for just one chapter lol ^_^ but still, kobato is a cute likeable story, unless it’s turned all bloody and depressing and such(i’ve developed a distrust towards clamp, so unpredictable lol) new pictures make me happyyy

YeY! I have been hoping this for ages! x3 (Though, as you said, it was predictable :P) Now, I’m guessing that the first part of this “new” Kobato. is finishing (if it hasn’t already finished, because in the latest chapter she received her bottle).

I’m wondering what’s left for the current tankoubon, too. Maybe one chapter is about looking for a new home as suggested in Exam 9, but other than that…

You’re right, Kobato will probably screw up the home-hunting so badly before finding Chitose’s building. XD

Newtype USA said the serialization would run for a year, I assume 12 monthly chapters. Also, 12 chapters x 14 pages each = 168 pages total. CLAMP might draw an Omake to fill the remaining pages.

I’ve been wondering about those so-called “big news” since you mentioned it ^^ Indeed, this was predictable, but in my heart there was always a teeny weeny little bit of stupid anxiousness about the way they left Kobato ~kari~’s story and how and when would they link them (or if they’d link them AT ALL ^^u). So an official announcement is always welcomed ^o^ Plus,

Oh yeah, the story was too good to be left forever… and the only thing that I think was worth having that prequel was the crossovers. Had they never returned a few steps before, who knows if we would be seeing all those old characters at all!

Not really, I think you got it wrong.
Both stories will become only one (not that it hasn’t always been like that).
They have always been the same thing, one of them (Kobato.) happens at an earlier point of the other, that’s all.
After Exam. 12, it’ll continue with the first chapter of “Kobato (Temporary)”.

I was very confused because they started the first one with a lot of characters and all that staff, and then, they started the other with only Kobato and “the ugly dog”(how I call him)… It was out of the blue, but now I can understand it.

When Kobato gets released in tankubon format, I’ll probably pick it up, even if it doesn’t appeal to me at the moment, I’m notorious for changing my mind “just because”.

well, those tankobon will be good kanji practice i suppose. so you think the newtype serialization is going to continue after exam 12? i should just go buy the newtype myself, i suppose. thanks for the info as always.

So ir is official now, both series will become one. That was pretty thin for such a fuss, “big announcement” they said. XD
But both tankoubon are on their way now, all that’s left to know is if Kobato will stay in Newtype or if it will be moved to another magazine after the exam story is over.
Kobato is sure appealing enough for the large majority of the Newtype readers to stay there as the main Newtype’s comic. But they may prefer a shorter story (Kobato seems long enough seems to be a quite long story, maybe the substitue for X, the perfect candidate to last more than a decade).
