Oh, how we missed the 4 color pages of XXXHOLiC opening chapters! First time we get to see Seoritsu-hime colored in XXXHOLiC style. Her eyes are purple here as well, just like in Clear Card.

The color spread is beautifully mirrored. It’s such a nice fusion of classic and modern CLAMP.

Watanuki uses his shared vision with Doumeki to see through him and a fashionable earpiece enchanted device to hear through him. Even Seoritsu-hime seems impressed.

So apparently the thing that appeared for Doumeki and Kudakitsune is a Fuuri (a yokai also known as “wind tanuki”), however this one seems exceptionally large, as pointed out by Doumeki.

Seoritsu-hime explains that the size and shape of the Fuuri may vary according to the time and area in which its story is told — maybe that is why CLAMP drew it in a less defined manner. Interestingly enough, she also added that the Fuuri took part of the fight for Watanuki’s eye, and that was many many volumes ago! =0 Indeed the Spider Lady said that many beings were interested in it, so the Fuuri was one of them, huh? Watanuki doesn’t seem very affected by that bit of information, though.

The Fuuri asks Doumeki to give the vase that came from Haruka’s warehouse — although the Fuuri says it’s an object associated to the shop. Doumeki denies it and the Fuuri threats to take it by force, but Kudakitsune transforms into its full form and starts to fight against the Fuuri.

At one point, Kudakitsune protects itself and Doumeki using Yamainu’s magic protection and the Fuuri notices that, but the fight is not ending on this chapter, unfortunately.

The Fuuri tells Doumeki and Kudakitsune that fire is weak against wind and threatens them both, thus ending the chapter.

We have a FIGHT, in a XXXHOLiC chapter! This is rare xD Gentle reminder that Seoritsu-hime did not seem very confident that Doumeki and Kudakitsune would succeed. So we’ll see…

Also, it’s still not clear to me if the Fuuri is what they were meant to find indeed or if they were interrupted by it (who is interested in the vase) while on their way to their destination?

Lot’s of action on this chapter so not a whole lot of dialogs, therefore it felt like the story did not advance much…

18 pages for this first chapter of volume 6 (typical for opening chapters by now, I might add).
