I got an e-mail from someone called Lance Hatami adverting me that Bandai Visual has uploaded what seems to be the DVD cover (or part of) of CLAMP IN WONDERLAND 2:
I confess I’m slightly disappointed with it. The composition is too simple and I don’t like that coloring method. But of course, everything CLAMP does is beautiful, I guess I expected more of it.

Yeah, I wonder that too, like they did to CIW1. I thought original goodies would be created to be sold on events (and that means more CLAMP art), but so far there are no events planned =\

Exactly, because it’s done with CG. It’s okay for simple pictures, but for a CIW2 cover, I expected more.

Still with CG you get more appealing tones rather than that sallow look most of them have, they look they’re sick or something. Yuuko looks like she’s suffering from some sort of liver disease.
As for the CIW2 cover, I was expecting it to be drawn by Mokona and colored in the usual CLAMP fashion.

Nekoi’s coloring is usually very good, I can look at a GD picture for hours, I like it, but for this one here, I don’t know, it looks plain and simple.

I guess Sakura was drawn by Mokona, after all she’s usually drawn by Mokona. But Rikuou, Watanuki and all the chibis are Nekoi’s.

I love Nekoi’s art, one of my favourite manga is WISH (sadly it only got a music video) and also her coloring.
Nekoi started out doing the chibis, but I think I was overall disappointed with it.

The new chibis are far better, I definitely agree. The old ones seemed to have teeth infections and swollen faces and reminded me too much of Slayers.

Not yet, in fact we’re lucky to see it at this fairly good size. Sample pictures are usually much smaller than that.
We won’t see any HQ scan until the DVD is formally released =\

Hm…well my hope isn’t all gone. They did say they were re picking it up in the near future when CLAMP gave their panel at AnimeExpo last year. And they are still drawing the characters on their official website…and someone told me that in the Wonderland trailer it says something like “the new series Kobato and Gouhou Drug” so I’m thinking they might use Wonderland as a way to show their fans who might not know much about Legal Drug and use it to boost sales and continue…>.> Well that’s my theory.

…That is a rather bland cover. It looks more like fanart. It’s mostly the coloring that is off– we’re used to more intricacy from Clamp, right?– and you’re right, the composition is flat.

I mean, it’s CLAMP IN WONDERLAND 1 & 2 PRECIOUS EDITION SUPER SHINNING OMG!!!!!, I got my expectations extremely high for the cover drawn by CLAMP (and its going to be the card illustration for CLAMP in CARDLAND too!)

I’m with you on composition thing! It is a little bland. The colouring seems just ok. Whoever said something about a bad foundation job is right!
I think what I like most is Subaru’s little blue jacket. Somehow it being not his usual red is really cute. XD And Rikuou is always awesome to see. ♥

OMG! I hope they didn’t make it look like that in order to “fit” in cards! Because you know, the promotional card that will come with CIW2 will have this illustration o.o

I think I finally realized why the cover felt unnatural. There’s no CCS characters, not even as chibi O.o No, really, that’s just bad marketing strategy.

Hahaha! That cover is 80% Nekoi. Rikuou, Watanuki, the chibis, the coloring! Only Sakura was done by Mokona in there.
But I think there’s the other side of the Box (it’s a box, after all!) and I hope there are other characters in there.

I already don’t like it when they use it for the Drama CD illustrations. But it’s okay, it’s once in a while, it’s different. But for CLAMP IN WONDERLAND 2, I wanted some shinning coloring.

Rikuo has Kohaku in his apron, Watanuki has Chii on his shoulder.
Some have theories about Kazahaya being related to Kohaku and I have this feeling CLAMP’s been drawing parallel’s between Watanuki and Chii. I wouldn’t put it past them to drop hints like this.
Aside from that, I really like how they’ve been drawn but I was really expecting more than this. Oh well.

Yo, Chibi-Yuuto! I definitely have to agree with you that the cover of CLAMP in Wonderland 2 is not so great. First of all, all Subaru fans know that he mostly wears red on his costumes. Then, it should’ve been Syaoran since he is the first primary character for TRC. If they wanted Sakura on the front cover, it should be Sakura Kinomoto from CCS instead of Sakura-hime.
A chibi Yuuko is nice, but I really wanted the normal form of her. They should’ve done it like the special cover similar to the CCS movies one. Overall, like said… the cover looks like a fanart. The background looks quite plain. Why couldn’t they have done it with the picture that appears on the official website…? -___-

You’re a lifesaver 😀 Just wanted to say while I appreciate this art for the goodness of being CLAMP in general, I agree it’s rather lame compared to what they usually produce. I love clamp…but if that’s the cover the dvd is gonna have…

Aww, the chibis are just precious, but… that’s all? Composition is rather plain, but that could be fixed with good colouring. If they only used copics *siiigh*. But you know, that’s strange, I know that Clamp are using Painter 6 and Photoshop 7 (just like me! Yay!^^) for their CGs. Those are very good software and if used properly, can be faar better than traditional methods. Please, Nekoi (I know that only she know how to CG), read some digital colouring tutorial, I beeeg youu >
