Before I begin, I want to point out that it’s really nice that the simulpub is still happening free of charge via YouTube. There was some questioning whether it was a one chapter thing and that Kodansha would start charging future chapters but that doesn’t seem to be the case, which is great.
Nothing special about the title page — usually not very fond of mascots illustrations. I do love the fact that Momo is wearing a (Chinese?) slit dress. Queen of Sass. The Nakayoshi cover is nice, although I agree with what I read Panicle said on the discord server that I feel like the “Sakura with animal ears” concept is a bit overused.
Interesting that Nadeshiko can’t see Momo. She can see everyone else, right…? This is a mistake in the Portuguese translation I’ve read. Actually it’s the other way around: Momo can’t see Nadeshiko.
Nadeshiko goes deep into Kaito’s memory to dig to what could have been the first time Kaito interacted with Akiho’s mother. He had around the same age as when he accepted the offer to take on the mission related to Akiho. In fact, this conversation just might have happened shortly before he made his decision.
Akiho’s mother, whose name remains unknown, finally gets her face revealed to the readers and as expected, she is the spitting image of Akiho. Also she can’t help but tell everyone how much she loves chocomint.
Kaito is surprised that Nadeshiko was able to pull up that memory from him even though she is dead. I don’t think we ever had an idea of Nadeshiko’s power. We knew she had yumemi powers that were never fully developed due to her passing, but that’s about it. We’re always somehow crediting Fujitaka and his relationship with Clow to Sakura’s power but her mother appeared to be very powerful as well, to the point where apparently even the house she chose for her family has a deeper reason behind — this is new to us.
Nadeshiko is always portrayed as really clumsy in flashbacks but her spirit is so mature and godly and the ultimate motherly figure. I love that she is always wearing a different and gorgeous dress each time she makes an appearance.
Kaito points out the differences between Sakura and Akiho. They are the exact opposites not only in surname but in regards to family and future, much like yin-yang. But at the same time, they are still very similar to each other in other aspects.
Once again CLAMP hinting us that Kaito is getting nearer and nearer death — the mere fact that he can now see Nadeshiko is proof of that.
Who is Kaito’s special person? Does he even have one? Akiho’s mother seems to have been the only person to have caused him at least some extent of emotion. But that person is now dead. He made it seem to Nadeshiko that he doesn’t have a special person, but is that really the case?
Syaoran confronts Kaito while he was about to cause some more mischief, Syaoran probably saw Kaito was up to no good and came prepared — still, even Momo and Kaito seem surprised that Syaoran managed to break the spell. Now the cat is out of the bag for Kaito. In fact, the cat is now jumping around since Sakura too broke the spell and saw them both fighting.
Last time Sakura’s body indicated that she was starting to resist Kaito’s magic, this time she fully came out of it. No more time freeze and possibly no more time rewind for Kaito, from now on it doesn’t seem like it will work with Sakura and Syaoran.
We got some revelations and some realisations. Things are moving steady. It really looks like we are reaching the end. I can see this ending in 9 chapters, with Chapter 50 being the last. I hope Sakura will make the right questions.

Remember—it’s not just Sakura with animal ears, it’s Sakura with animal ears in fur-lined coats (and that one cableknit sweater, ahaha).
We were joking around on the Discord server that Akimom looks so similar to Akiho, she must have reincarnated as her or something. Her interactions with Kaito have a similar air to her interactions with Nadeshiko—like, it’s obvious she was supposed to be a bright, sweet person, but wouldn’t you be weirded out if a random girl came up to you and said, “Hey, what are you eating for lunch? Your lunch kind of sucks, doesn’t it? Why not try chocomint?” or “I’m your long-lost childhood friend! Let’s put some magic in your favorite necklace!”
It’s interesting that we saw Sakura with her staff and Akiho with her book when Kaito was comparing them. It’s obvious that the book is the reason why Akiho doesn’t have a future, but Kaito also seems to be thinking of the staff as a sign of happiness and hope. Ever since we found out that Kaito moved Akiho into Clow’s old house—and that she came to Japan to find a very special book—I wonder why Kaito has paid so much attention to the whole story of Clow’s chosen successor. If Akiho’s family really is the Reed family, maybe Kaito thinks Sakura is living the life Akiho deserved to have?
Nadeshiko tried to handle Kaito with love and patience…but as Momo knows, he’s especially thickheaded when it comes to love, so maybe she ought to have just reamed him out.
Syaoran has come a long way to be able to resist Kaito like that! It doesn’t look as if Kaito’s going to be able to rewind time again, so he’s going to have to find a new way of dealing with Sakura now that she’s fully broken free of his magic for the first time.

The book control Akiho’s life and Sakura uses the staff to control hers. I guess that if Akiho had powers, she would had a lot more opportunities in the magician organisation than havin been used by it.

That’s not too crazy considering Akimom was a magician. She could have performed a spell when she died. We don’t know the circunstances of her death.

And let’s not forget that the cloaked figure in Sakura’s dreams was trying to steal the key from her.

It is very nice indeed! I didn’t look for other languages, but the French version is available for free on Youtube and the editor is also selling the “e-chapter” for 0.99€ each. So people who would like to support the artist and editors have this option.

For my understanding, Nadeshiko can see Momo, but Momo can’t see Nadeshiko. I read the chapter in French, so it might be translated differently in other languages.

Yes, we are closing to the end. Kaito’s opponents are getting stronger and his time is running out, literally! But i bet this time he will succeed to get out of reach before Sakura will arrive, but not before controlling Syaoran with a new spell so that he will be able to turn is mind blank like in Sakura’s dream. Ineed toi reread the whole series, things are getting serious!

It is so great to read everybody at the same time and in multiple languages. Makes writing reviews on a timely fashion a lot easier. Not having to rely on fan translations (which lately were really scarse).

Yes and in my case, I am buying both the Japanese and Brazilian editions so I’m supporting it twice as much. And now reading it on YouTube giving it views (which probably have some sort of revenue to them as well).

Hmmmm it could have been a translation issue. The Portuguese translation clearly implies that Nadeshiko is the one who can’t see Momo. It makes more sense the other way around.

By the time I was reading the chapter and writing the review, I didn’t think of it but it’s starting to hit me now as well that the outcome of this battle will result in dark!Syaoran.

Wow, what to say. This surely feels like “ready? CLIMAX!!” to me. And I also can see this ending in 9 chapters. I’m a bit happy and a bit sad, at the thought. But I guess for the health of the franchise, it’s best to not abuse of it, and finalize it in an appropriate manner. I’m sure Ohkawa calculated hw much she could “stretch” out of Clear Card.

YES, we were saying about what a pioneering move this was, and it truly is. People who can’t afford to buy every single month a magazine that is not even sold in their countries can now read *for free* a LQ version of the chapters, giving revenues (I suppose) with their views. I don’t think it’s by chance that they decided to host them on Youtube. They pay well. And, those who can spend a bit more can buy the chapters at a cheap price and 2 days in advance on the magazine release schedule!!! I find that miraculous!

I love this new empowerment of Nadeshiko. CLAMP decided to give her a more meaningful role than just “the ghost of the late mother hovering over her children”. I’m glad. Every character in CCS is relevant, and that’s a thing I love about it. And she retains her powers even in the afterlife, such a powerful woman!

I really don’t think Kaito is going to “run away” Tina-Rie-Triax-ing his ass out of the scene, this time is it. The Queen overcame his power and she’s staring right at them, I think another time-rewinding would mean his death and she still hasn’t given birth to the card he wants. He can’t go without even trying. And yes, if dark!Syaoran really must happen, this could be the perfect time. Booooooy what a mess. In full Clamp’s style, all the shit happens at the end!! XD
I seriously can’t wait for chapter 42. I really can’t!!!

Yes, not to mention that it’s not a wasted effort. The publishers would have to translate the chapters ANYWAY, for the final print version. So translating the chapters like this help them when it’s time to publish the compiled book (all the work is done already). Everybody wins.

I agree that Kaito is unlikely to turn back time. Not only he would die but Sakura (and Syaoran too, now?) would likely resist. And CLAMP already used that plot device once, it would be rather disappointing if they used it again.
