Episode 15 – Sakura’s Nostalgic Viewing Party

Card Captor Sakura Clear Card TV Anime is being broadcast in several countries around the world via online services in a simultaneous or semi-simultaneous fashion. Please check the guide below to see if your country is included:

Where can I watch Card Captor Sakura Clear Card TV Anime? – A useful guide

If you watch the anime via one of these channels, you’ll be supporting the creators and helping to make Card Captor Sakura even more popular worldwide.

The talk between Kaito and Akiho at breakfast is a parallel of what’s happening to Sakura and the cards, but the “Alice” from the book could be either Sakura or Akiho, I think.

Again the hair talk? Is CLAMP considering letting Sakura grow her hair? And by the way, Meiling’s reaction as to who cuts whose hair was exactly like mine.

Meiling is doing so much for Sakura and Syaoran, right? She has full bloomed into a very secure and mature woman. Hopefully Sakura is learning a thing or two from her.

LOL at these girls speaking English xD

OMG I love Sonomi so much. I can’t get enough of her. And I love Tomoyo’s hairstyle.

So the girls watched the play from movie 2 (while Sakura would rather die of embarrasment). Movie 2 is more than canon now. Sure, it doesn’t explain how Eriol’s house is still standing, but I hope that will be addressed later on.

The whole scene had a very nostalgic feeling, and the extra footage with the rehearsals was nice. Super cute scene with Sakura and Syaoran there — I hope all SyaoSaku fans are happy. I apologize for not getting any deeper in the SyaoSaku craziness. I love the couple but I am saving my fanboylism all for Sonomi ❤ You should know by now that my reviews aren’t filled with SyaoSaku-ness xD

For the past two episodes, Sakura has been getting a lot of inputs about Syaoran, she’s been noticing him more, his actions, Meiling’s advices and inside information as well. I think this is building up for a breakthrough moment that Sakura will go through in the coming episodes, regarding Syaoran I mean.

Once again Naoko’s play is mentioned, which makes me think that we really might get another play before the end of the season (or maybe in another movie?).

So a new card appears. It behaves just like an earth-based card, but could we see the earth-based card appear in the anime before than the manga?

Next episode looks like an homage to The Fight/The Twins card episode? Will Sakura secure two cards (the one that is causing the earthquake and this one that looks like The Fight?).

The animation was so on point during this entire episode. I think the only few moments it looked a little less detailed was when Sakura was flying around with FLIGHT.

PLEASE let us have that afternoon tea with Sonomi on the next episode xD

  1. Love the nostalgia and Sonomi is the second best thing I can get from CLAMP after Yuuko-san.

As for the plot development bits, we get no more than we’ve had already, except maybe Kaito mentioning Akiho turning to an animal (maybe a dragon?). It also drew my attention how much they focused on the play bits mentioning how much better it would be if the magic stone belonged to no-one/were in no-one’s hands…

  2. Hey it was been a while.
Well it is very trivial and unimportant but kinda wanted to let you I’ve stopped watching the anime.
No no offense, the anime is great. But not necessarily the thing I’m interested. I guess the whole stalling plot thing, several animation/art mistakes and lazy takes displaced all my motivation to even keep on track.
And for the fun fact I don’t have a favorite character, crucial thing for me to be a real fan, just did not help at all.
The only thing I care about this series is the mystery, magic, art and plot writing. Most people usually look up to their favorite characters and feel the happiest when they do things. But since I don’t have that, does not make any difference for me if I skip one or all the next episodes.

Although my opinion regarding the manga keeps the same: it got the most beautiful artstyle I’ve ever seen in a black and white comic. That’s why I’ve got the first two volumes and they were the only manga books I’ve taken when moved to UK. I like them THAT much.
And the way it tells the story, though less detailed and straight-away, honestly, I preferred it way more than the anime. Again, it is caused cuz I don’t really care about the characters. The only one which got my interest the closest is Yuna but huuuuuh the manga just does him better.

Maybe once a real intense episode happens I’ll watch it. That’s why I’ve decided to keep reading your reviews of each episode if there’s something on them to sparkle. There will be a final clashing episode and that may be more than enough for that. I mean Sakura has to face Yuna’s real nature someday. I mean I did like all the fights in the original series. Remember that part in the second movie when Syaoran faced that nameless card in the roller coast with that thunder spell of his?
Epic. I want to see more like that again.

I’ll keep full track in the manga. I’m just stopping about the anime.

    • The real action will probably start in the last four or five episodes, particularly for the last two in June, who should be aired after the last chapter of tankoubon 5 is published. But for the moment, it’s really just fillers with Meiling.

  3. Surprise b*tch, I’m gonna review really early this time!!! XDDD
So. This episode was totally aimed at the die-hard fans and it didn’t involve a lot of plot advancement, I can already hear the “casual watchers” or the less invested fans complaining about this. BUT WHO CARES, I MEAN, they finally confirmed that The Sealed Card is more than canon, Nothing Card included, and they even delivered more than expected!! They don’t know how much this means to us. Let’s see in detail.

Technical side: ooooh, this is the quality we were getting used to in episode 2 and 3, I loved how they saved a lot of budget for this one. I also could recognize some directing choices of the earlier episodes that I really enjoyed, like focusing on the body language of the character while the same is talking over the phone to someone. Like Sakura putting down the thing used to hold the book, her feet, a hand closing in a fist to signify she’s getting a little tense remembering that Syaoran *did* push himself too hard last time….etc etc…
I also loved the overall animation fluidity, in this episode there were a lot of panning shots but they accompanied us into Sakura’s emotions while she was rewatching the play. It was really like taking a trip into her own heart , I liked the use the made of them.
I also gotta praise the staff for the care they took in being compliant with the Sealed Card movie of year 2000. On the desks of the classroom you can see a lot of small things, like the costumes, the backpacks (they didn’t go reharsing with their school bags!! this is compliant), the uniform hats, all the tools Tomoyo was using to fix the Prince costume to fit Syaoran’s size, you can even see Syaoran’s blue guest slippers on the floor, while he was using the costume shoes. You can feel all the love the staff is pouring into this work, I’ll say this a thousand times if necessary.

    On to the story!
Kaito was creepy as f*ck, excuse me if I reiterate this but the staff is doing a good job at portraying him like a creep XDD
    That-that thing he did with the droplet…Natsuki Hanae’s smooth and low voice…it was….uuuuhhh >_<
And LOL, the clock on the book moves?
I appreciated a lot that they decided to give Meiling *finally* another hairstyle, and the fact that Sakura was braiding it was even cuter…those two grew to be like sisters, in my eyes.
“Again the hair talk? Is CLAMP considering letting Sakura grow her hair? “
Exactly what I thought, bro! Once is ok, but twice in 3 episodes? MMhhhh sounds fishy 🙂
“Meiling is doing so much for Sakura and Syaoran, right? She has full bloomed into a very secure and mature woman. Hopefully Sakura is learning a thing or two from her.”
I do hope so, but I’m sure she’s already doing it!
Sonomi was the usual crazy woman, even though she sounds a bit exaggerate, voice acting-wise? Is this how Masafumi Mima really wanted her to be? Her actions are just fine, it’s that crazy voice that sometimes irks me a little O_o
    Tomoyo’s high ponytail was rad!!!

The SyaoSaku fans are feeling more than blessed right now, thank you XD Two wonderful moments in a row, very appreciated!! Although this looks fishy too, to me, are we going to see some kind of difficulty for which they won’t be able to have those moments, for a while?
For the past two episodes, Sakura has been getting a lot of inputs about Syaoran, she’s been noticing him more, his actions, Meiling’s advices and inside information as well. I think this is building up for a breakthrough moment that Sakura will go through in the coming episodes, regarding Syaoran I mean.
YASSS. I thought a similar thing and I’m glad you agree. The only question is “when”. There aren’t many episodes left, and with Episode 19’s title out (Sakura and Akiho’s lullaby) it even gets more and more unlikely that they can wrap up everything in 22 episodes. This is the new mystery to look forward to, after the Sealed Card one.
Back to the SyaoSaku moment, and in general to the play, it was very well made, they re-animated and re-recorded the play scenes, it was kinda weird to hear them talk slight differently than what I know by heart XD but when I saw Tomoyo starting that never seen before reharsal video, I went over the moon……… That was such a gift for us, thank you Asaka, thank you Ohkawa. I’m thanking them too much lately, I’m sure they’ll make me regret it. That video was very interesting because it showed how possibly Syaoran could learn all he needed to learn to replace Yamazaki properly in the play. It was such a hard work, working against time. And with their mindset. In fact, you can see them being kinda “serious”, Sakura at times seems distant, she had a lot on her mind indeed. This too, was compliant with the original movie.
I wrote a cheesy comment about the dance on my twitter recap, I’m reporting it here for the hell of it: “And then, their magic works. Like it happens in life, after the first mistake, they start to synchronize their hearts and minds. Their dance is perfect, and the whole class is entranced by the speed with which they’re learning, and their chemistry. I loved this moment.”
And then, that f*cking earthquake. I think it’s pretty apparent by now that the cards originate from Sakura’s thoughts, yes? Just in case anyone had any more doubts. I wonder what would’ve happened if the card originated from any of the thousand thoughts she had about the play with Syaoran….we would be in a big mess by now.

I laughed like a b*tch at Sakura apologizing and using Snooze while bowing, that reminded me soooooo much of the manga scene in which Syaoran bowed and apologized to Yukito before punching him in the gut and making him pass out, before the final judgement XDDD And, thinking of it, there was another earthquake going on. Mh.

So the capture of this card will trespass in next episode, looking at NHK’s synopsis for episode 16, it seems she will secure this card and then another one will appear on the way home with Meiling!! I’m sure we’ll get the afternoon tea with Sonomi, her voice actress is still credited for next episode 😉 Next episode will probably be the last one for Meiling in Japan too :((( I’m already crying at the thought.

But the true question is: WHEN THE HELL IS MOMO GOING TO TALK???

    • “I think it’s pretty apparent by now that the cards originate from Sakura’s thoughts, yes?”

I’m on the fence for this one, She could also be calling existing cards…

      Like

      • Until proven otherwise, yes, there’s still the possibility she’s calling for existing cards!
But lately the occurrence “Sakura thinks about something-> New card” is more and more apparent…for the earlier cards it was difficult to trace a correspondence, but now it seems that the more time passes, the more the two things are related…

    • This episode might as well have been called “Enjoy the fanservice”.

I agree with everything you said about the technical aspects. Also, movie 2 has a “cyan” hue to its photography. Everything is bluer (even Sakura’s green eyes) and they even kept that “aura” in those recordings. There is a “cyan” feeling to it.

Sonomi was the usual crazy woman, even though she sounds a bit exaggerate, voice acting-wise? Is this how Masafumi Mima really wanted her to be? Her actions are just fine, it’s that crazy voice that sometimes irks me a little
You think? OMG I love her xD

I think it’s pretty apparent by now that the cards originate from Sakura’s thoughts, yes?
Yeah, it felt like that, because she was desperately wishing for the thing to be over.

I’m sure we’ll get the afternoon tea with Sonomi, her voice actress is still credited for next episode 😉
      YAY!

Next episode will probably be the last one for Meiling in Japan too :(((
Seems like it =( Her legacy will remain tho!

      FREAKING I KNOW!

  4. movie 2 has been made more than official!! omg this is the perfect episode for my birthday!! ❤ now i just need eriols house mystery solved and thats that! may as well say its magic that did it for the anime.

"WHEN THE HELL IS MOMO GOING TO TALK???"
i bet its gonna happen like the yue reveal in the final 2 or was it 3 episodes in clow arc. 22 episodes is not enough for the development of these characters!! i feel like there is going to be a movie or something to further the story.
"Kaito was creepy as f*ck, excuse me if I reiterate this but the staff is doing a good job at portraying him like a creep XDD"
i swear the dude reminds me of Sebastian from black butler whenever i see him??? i like mysterious shady characters so im loving him, and this added darker/ eerie (?) touch to ccs is unexpected but very welcome.its keeping things fresh without changing the format too much.

i LOVED meilings and tomoyos hairstyles!! im definitely gonna be wearing meilings to my studio on monday 😀

OHHHH i love that clamp are adding meiling and sonomi more! these two characters i just love so much!! ❤ ❤
lol if sonomi was in trc she'd so be an alternate version of yuuko! and meiling has most certainly become big sister to sakura! so sweet and heart warming how close and understanding these two have become. i doubt there's ever a quiet/awkward/confrontational moment between them ever again. i have to say i also adore syaorans relationship with her ❤

so i was actually pleasantly surprised at the earthy equivalent showing up earlier than the original earthy did in the clow arc. im hoping they save blaze for last to near to last. i dearly want blaze capture to be more active/ risky, and not so easy or quick. fiery capture in clow arc was so so cool! its my favourite card, and the fiery episode is my absolute favourite!

    Like

  5. oh forgot to mention sonomis singing about afternoon tea! she can sing really well! now we know where tomoyo gets it from! although tomoyo has a much softer (?) voice

lmao!! tomoyos reaction when sakura forced her to play the song performance video! XD sakura dies of embaressment whilst the play and rehersals were shown. then tomoyo sank into the bluest mood ive seen her in yet, whilst her song was being shown XD and i noticed how similar problems tomoyo and yamazaki are having with their hobbies! they are both being stopped at every angle no matter what! yamazki with his lies, and tomoyo with her fangirl filming!

well it looks like sakura got so rattled it caused an earthquake!

oooh next episode looks awesome! great to see meiling and sakura fighting side by side. this looks like a combination of what happened with the fight/twin card with how it was captured only instead of syaoran doing the fighting with meiling it looks like sakura will be tag teaming with meiling! cant wait!! :DDD

ah! first human looking card!!!!!!! eeek!!!!

  6. Hmm, is it just me, or somehow, the feel of this episode was just… off from the usual CCS episode? I can’t quite place my finger on it. Not bad, just different… Maybe a little too over the top? The way Sonomi pranced off in opera-like song (everything seemed on point until that moment, and then I was like “whoa-ho-ho…”), the way Tomoyo was quite put-out at having to show a video of herself (I’m assuming because it means less of Sakura video time?? It was confusing because it came off as “Haha, not so eager to show videos now when the shoe is on the other foot!”), how SUPER embarrassed Sakura was about the video (to the point that I felt super bad for her and thought it was unintentional, well-meaning bullying), Sakura being super apologetic for putting people to sleep (she’s never had any qualms with it before), even the moment with Sakura and Syaoran during rehearsal, with everyone suddenly joining in their counting. I think I would have appreciated the moment more if the class had stayed silent and stood in awe of Sakura and Syaoran’s chemistry, and let them have their moment together alone instead of “butting in” with their counting. Having the class count together seemed a little cheesy, even for CCS. Still cute, gave me my necessary dose of SxS, but I think it could have been done better.

Suspension of disbelief was challenged a little with the earthquake and everyone’s reactions to it. I think Chibiyuuto mentioned this before in the Watery-callback episode with everyone seeming to not react much to the entire tank bursting and almost drowning the guests, and I think that problem surfaced again here. Really, Akiho? You’re concerned about your lightbulb drink during an earthquake? Sonomi running to check on the girls, and calling out for Tomoyo before Sakura was great attention to detail. When I saw the bodyguards all running to them, I thought they were going to get everyone out, but no, they just stood around, waiting to be inevitably put to sleep. And Sakura, what do you mean “The house is still shaking, it’s not safe, so stay inside”?? Sure, you’re supposed to get under something in the event of an earthquake, and you normally wouldn’t attempt to try to make it out of a building until the shaking stops, but outside in a wide open space with no large trees or telephone poles like the Daidouji’s garden is much safer than being trapped inside a building that may collapse. Sakura, you have magic that could safely get them out! And now there’s a bunch of sleeping adults that can’t duck and cover that you’ve left poor Tomoyo to deal with on her own! The writing for this episode seemed to make everyone behave unbelievably, just so Sakura could keep her magic secret, or for the sake of comedy in spite of the supposed danger they’re in.

The moments with Meiling and her interactions with Sakura, Syaoran, and Kero were perfect. I love how they’ve taken her character and made her grow so much from where she started in the original series.

I know there’s a theory out there about Akiho being somehow related to Nadeshiko, and I think this episode might have killed that theory. There was no reaction from Sonomi with Akiho, not like how Sonomi was when she first met Sakura, and I think Sakura looks even less like Nadeshiko.

    Like

    • About the Nadeshiko theory, with the last chapter, it became more likely that Akiho is related to Masaki’s wife. She could even be her reincarnation. Not only does she looks and act like Sakura, she sing and talk like Tomoyo. Even Meiling did a comment how the new girl sound like Tomoyo with her overly polite way of speech on episode 13.

    • “how SUPER embarrassed Sakura was about the video (to the point that I felt super bad for her and thought it was unintentional, well-meaning bullying)”

yeah i felt tomoyo did go a little too far. i mean even kero was feeling somewhat uncomfortable too and he was supporting sakura through her extremely painful dying cringe. hopefully it wont ever become an issue when sakura says no and really means it from the bottom of her heart, but tomoyo just presses play anyway for her invited viewers to see.

“Hmm, is it just me, or somehow, the feel of this episode was just… off from the usual CCS episode? I can’t quite place my finger on it. mmm i think sonomi prancing and singing about something that she’s excited about is very in character, but for me it was perhaps tomoyo that was the off thing in this episode. she went just that bit too far and sakura cringing went from funny and cute to a teeny bit uncomfortable. actually tomoyos behavior is what felt a little off axis for me. i may very likely be reading too much into it but i felt she didn’t respect (?) sakuras overly embarrassed feelings in that moment. and then hypocrite moment of not wanting to show her performance. it was just a little out of character. but on the flip side LOVE that extra rehearsal footage!!! and of course i adore tomoyo!

Haha, you’re right, it is in character for her, watching it again while expecting it kinda made it better. Out of all the things I listed, that one was probably the least off for me, but as it was the first thing in the episode that made me do a double take, and then the things that followed that made me pause, figured I’d include it. Sonomi is always going 120% with her love of Sakura, it’s adorable, I love it. That moment of opera-singing “Afternoon tea! Afternoon tea!” just took it to 150% and I was like “Wow….” Definitely blew me away, I just wasn’t expecting it, and of course, definitely funny to watch.

could be that the anime is going down a different path to the manga. in the sakura arc manga it was a running theme how alike eriol and fujitaka were, then bam right at the end its revealed they are related via being two halves of clow reed. but this didn’t feature at all in the anime. it was just eriol being single reincarnation of clow. so maybe they will continue with this for clear card with nadeshiko/sakura/ akiho mystery. they keep the relation reveal for manga and not for anime. i mean since episode 1 its apparent that there isn’t a problem with nadeshiko. i wondered if they would keep this for the anime- like make sakura able to see her now but they haven’t as yet.

      • “could be that the anime is going down a different path to the manga.”
Very true, they both seem to be highlighting very different things. I’d have to reread the original manga again, but I was super surprised at the sudden mention of Nadeshiko having magic in this recent manga chapter. I always figured that, like Clow Reed, Yuko Ichihara may have split herself into two, into Kaho Mizuki and Nadeshiko, and like Fujitaka, was more like a magic carrier than a magic user. It just seemed a neat way to tie everything together and ensure everyone was with their loved one. But now Nadeshiko had actual magic? Hmmm…. But then how would that be related to Akiho…? Is she Kaito’s guardian who like Yukito has no memory of her true self? An alternate dimension of Sakura’s soul (Tsubasa style)? Or maybe SHE is the thing that Kaito stole from the Magician Society and the watch and book are red herrings??? So many questions, argh! But maybe the anime will be going down a less complicated route. CLAMP manga seem to be able to get away with more crossovers and more mind-screwy stuff. I try to reassure myself that this won’t get too crazy though since CCS is largely aimed at elementary school girls in Japan, but then again, it’s pulled in a lot of the old fans who have been here since the beginning.
