Where can I watch Card Captor Sakura Clear Card TV Anime? – A useful guide

If you watch the anime via one of these channels, you’ll be supporting the creators and helping to make Card Captor Sakura even more popular worldwide.

I thought this episode would still follow the manga quite closely but it had more original content that I thought. And since Ohkawa is behind the script (), everything becomes cannon automatically. I sort of prefer this way of spreading and squeezing original content between those based on the manga, instead of having 3 very faithful episodes and 1 completely original episode, which usually ends up being a filler and pointless for the main plot.

The episode title frame changed to the new magic circle! And some of the inner circles move!

I was a little worried whether we would see a decrease in the animation quality since you all know very well how the first and last episodes are usually the best animated ones and the ones in between can vary from medium to low quality animation. That’s usually not the case for Madhouse, though, being one of the most consistent animation studios I’ve ever come to see. So even though I was a little worried, the screencaps released in advance and the preview showed that the animation quality would remain on top. Having seen the whole episode, I wasn’t able to notice any downgrade. Nothing bothered me to the point of thinking that I was watching a “less important” episode. In fact, I noticed very little things that made all the difference such as how Sakura’s classmates and the other students in Tomoeda Junior High actually MOVE a lot. Like, when Sakura enters the classroom and says “good morning!”, some random students turns around and replies back “good morning!”. I thought “who the hell are you?”. So, those are nice things and show the high level of animation quality.

They are showing Syaoran’s secrets and hidings very subtly. I feel like they don’t want to give everything away so quickly, but the most attentive anime-only audience have already noticed that he is acting a little weird. In the manga it looked more obvious.

The lunch scene had so many feels! I am happy that Ohkawa addressed Wei and Meiling in episode 2 already. It’s only natural that they shouldn’t be forgotten. Although Wei didn’t come this time, Syaoran says that he might be visiting him in the future — my guess is that he and Meiling will come for summer vacations.

We learn that the outfits that Sakura and Syaoran are wearing on Chapter 18 in the manga were very likely inspired in an outfit worn by Meiling during a summer festival. Nice bit of information!

The art class was a nice little addition too. It’s good to know that they are still students at the end of the day, you know? We don’t get to see a lot of that in the manga due to well, page limitation (gotta get straight to the point!), but the anime allows such things. It’s nice to see some interaction between the girls and character profile. For example, Naoko has always been a very creative person so it makes sense that she should be good at drawing. And it makes sense that the statue’s clothes look more fluid in Tomoyo’s drawing since she’s used to draw them. By the way, didn’t you love seeing Tomoyo’s sketch book? And Sakura has come a long way too. Do you all remember her sculpture drawing in The Silent episode? XD

The sequence with Kero and all the food (Chiharu’s cheesecake, Touya’s okonomiyaki and modern-yaki) was hilarious! Kudos to Aya Hisakawa (Kero’s voice actress) and also to Madhouse for nailing how to animate a funny and cute Kero-chan.

We got to see a longer wand transformation sequence, which was nice! But it still looks not cool enough? I don’t know, it’s missing something (other than the bit about the “contract”, which doesn’t seem to be the case). And Sakura’s face at the end doesn’t look FIERCE enough. I really hope they will make a standard animation sequence for the wand transformation like they did with the two previous ones, only changing the outfits. A good transformation sequence is KEY for any magic girl.

The scene with Eriol staring at his cellphone could either imply that he had just hang up after talking to Syaoran or that he is feeling a little bad for not replying back to Sakura. If it’s the former, we might get to see the conversation in the next episode. This probably goes to what I said earlier that they don’t wan to give everything away at once.

Lastly, Sakura meets the Mysterious Cloaked Figure again in her dreams and we got the see the bit that was cut in Episode 1 where they try to take the key from Sakura. I like these small changes. It’s a different media, with a different structure, in the end it’s all about the pacing and building up to the climax.

I would like to talk about the OST again. I am so glad that tracks from the original series are back. This way it feels more like a 4th season than anything: a perfect blend of old and new tracks. It all contributes to a greater experience.

Judging by the preview for Episode 3, it looks Sakura will be securing two cards: AQUA and REFLECT.

  1. So yeah the second episode has aired and I’m also surprised to see the extra anime-only content. I didn’t check the manga version again as I’m waiting for my first volume to arrive soon so can’t remember what exactly was there or not.
But now I understand why the original anime despite the gigantic number of fillers and anime-only cards were just as good and engaging as the canon content, so CLAMP themselves are directly involved with the script and production! That’s something I didn’t know!
That means we can at least except more cute and daily basis stuff!

Oh Meilin. Last episode I was sorta confused if the anime was following the manga content or from the classic show since you know, that OVA that reflected the real ending of the manga was entirely different from the anime finale. I couldn’t tell which of them the new show is following but guess goes for a mix of both.
And that waiter guy. But now Shaoran is living on his own now. I swear that friggin kid, he’s like….14 I dunno and he simply can live in another country all by himself with a fancy apartment and all? I’m going to emigrate alone myself as well, twice of his age but I’m not nearly as confident as the brat and animu honestly makes that stuff look so easy and the heck I’m jealous of fictional nonsense reliable children lol

ANYWAY I wish they could be more specific about that cheese cake recipe I wanted to try it out. But without telling the right measures of the ingredients, just nope. Still was cute to watch.

And to watch Kero almost blowing his cover despite nonexistent since Touya was aware of him since ever ahahaha

Next episode will debut Aqua! I was curious so see its animated design as in the manga it looks so beautiful but now from the preview I’m content to see how it looks like.

    • Oh yes! The anime — both the original and this sequel — work as a complementary read to the manga, basically. Since CLAMP is directly involved, the anime allows more room to explore the characters in a better way!

Syaoran has always been a little more mature than his real age, but yeah, it’s a little hard to imagine that? But then again, Wei is an anime-only character so Syaoran was already living by himself in the manga since the beginning, when he was only 10! ^^”

True. They should share it on the official website or something!

    • Yesterday on the Clow Kingdom server on Discord we made a team work and translated the cheesecake recipe of Episode 2!! I’ll paste it here for convenience:

      For the base:
      Biscuits 50 g
      Butter 40 g
      For the cream:
      Cream cheese 200g
      Nama cream (cream) 200 cc
      Sugar 40g
      Lemon juice 2 tablespoons
      Gelatin 10g
      Honey 80g
      For the Topping:
Blueberry sauce, Strawberry sauce, honey or other

-Place cream cheese in a bowl, and stir until smooth.
-Add sugar to whipping cream, can add honey.
-When mixture forms soft peaks, add cream cheese and lemon juice.
-Place gelatin powder (and water) in heat resistant bowl and microwave it.
-Then add the melted gelatin to the mixture.
-Pass mixture through a sieve, then pour into the pan.
-Let sit in fridge for two to three hours.
      -Top it as desired.

If you end up doing it, please share your result! XD I want to do it too, even if I’ve already done no-baking cheesecakes before!

  2. Greetings from NYC! I love reading your summaries and thoughts on CCS. I’m usually a silent observer, but I wanted to ask something about this episode and the series as a whole. I remember both in the original anime and manga, after Yukito passes out due to needing Toya’s powers, that Sakura found out he knew everything. So why does Kero need to act like a plushie still?! Lol im thinking that maybe they are keeping it like that for comic relief but i would love to know your opinion on this.

    • Hello Dennise! Hello NYC, I love that city ❤

I know what you mean about Touya knowing about Kero. In fact, I was going to write something about it but I forgot to. The joke is getting a little old, too, actually.

I don't know what's up. I have the same impression as you, that Sakura and Kero should know that Touya knows everything. But I would guess maybe they don't know the extent of how much Touya knows? I don’t know, I’m guessing here. I can’t remember a conversation where they openly talk about Kero.

I like the comedy in that, but sometimes I do think we’ve had enough.

      • I remember she told Kero in episode 64 that Touya knew everything. I did enjoy the scene in the new episode, even though the joke is indeed being stretched a bit too far. I would personally like to see both Kero and Touya interact with each other. But regardless I’m excited for this whole series. Thank you for all you do for all of us.

  3. Hello from France !

Episode 2 seems to give us an answer to a question from episode 1. Why doesn’t Fujitaka see Nadeshiko ?
If “anime Clear Card Hen” follows “anime CCS” like Wei and Meiling reference proves it, in this case, Fujitaka can’t see Nadeshiko because he isn’t Clow Read reincarnation.

    What do you think ?

    • Hello! J’aime ma cherie France! Vive la France!

I think it’s the same. I am keeping an eye out to that but it’s very suspicious that they cut the bit where Fujitaka seems concerned that he hasn’t been able to see her in a while.

  4. Hellooooooo you thought I forgot about it, uh?
I’m writing this at 01.20 am so you better read it!
Ok I thought I would have made another long ass review but I think I’ll be briefer than last time, hahaha!
You know how I feared we might have seen some decrease in the quality, and I prepared myself a lot for it…
WELL, the decrease was slightly there, but it was much better than I expected! Plenty of lovely screenshots to take when there are close-ups of the characters! I still love how the animation is really detailed in some points, but I thought the first animation of the students going to school was kinda creepy, it’s clearly made with CG and the movement of their legs is totally unnatural, like they were robots or something…Madhouse nope, stop that u_u

What about the story, what can I say…if not that I LOVED the long-awaited original content? The long-awaited, can you believe it? But that’s what Madhouse made us used to, original content of quality, written along with Ohkawa, and it surely delivered this time as well.
I applaude the idea of showing the art class, because Sakura’s school life will be an important part of her routine and she just started a new school, so it’s great to get comfortable with all the new things.
We can also get a glimpse of what Syaoran does when he’s not around Sakura, and he’s doing great, sharing moments of bonding with his classmates! Honestly, how much love changed this kid? It’s unbelivable!

I’m glad they continued the dream sequence in this episode! I thought they cut it, but now when I don’t see a content in one episode (like, Syaoran and Eriol’s call in this one) I’ll just wait before complaining, lol! They like to rearrange things and that is a big YES to me! Keeps things interesting for who has read the manga already. I just wish they’d continue the dream again and insert that “DAME!!!” scene, I want to hear Sakura Tange scream ok?XD
WEI!! and MEILING MENTION!! You surely heard me screaming even if I’m on the other side of the world, right?XD We just said it in the podcast and they delivered it right away! I can’t really wait to see them both…Meiling especially…ah!*_*
And now, ladies and gentlemen, let me just say a big LMAO to that animation sequence of the leaf falling while Syaoran is beginning his long road of hiding the truth from his girlfriend…they even went as far as to make Naoko questioning him “But you weren’t there with Meiling in the picture” (original content) so they could make sure we all noticed and understood that Syaoran was telling a pile of bullshit there. I loved that the scene basically changed to something else exactly as he was trying to avoid addressing the real reason why he didn’t choose a club or why he wasn’t in the picture with Meiling. Good job Asaka, that’s why I love you! Subtle allusions there!!

I think I’m done for this episode, see you for the next one!! 😀

but I thought the first animation of the students going to school was kinda creepy, it’s clearly made with CG and the movement of their legs is totally unnatural, like they were robots or something…Madhouse nope, stop that u_u
Oh my god I didn’t notice anything of the sort xD Now I am afraid to see it and then never be able to UNsee it!

Yes. And if you think about it, they did something similar with the original anime as well.

I just wish they’d continue the dream again and insert that “DAME!!!” scene, I want to hear Sakura Tange scream ok?XD
But it was there, wasn’t it? I saw it. It wasn’t as dramatic as in the manga, though.

You surely heard me screaming even if I’m on the other side of the world, right?XD
      Yes.

We just said it in the podcast and they delivered it right away! I can’t really wait to see them both…Meiling especially…ah!*_*
Which means we should do more podcasts expressing our hopes and wishes.

Nnnnoot really, she kept saying “anata dare?” but she didn’t scream the last “NO!” that was in the manga…I wanted her to better express the fact that “nope, I’m not fucking giving you this”.

Which means we should do more podcasts expressing our hopes and wishes.
Well, not that we broke the ice………..hahahaha!

  5. A second episode quite decent. The visual is sure as high standards as the first. Audio, everyone is in character and the music do its job gracefully.

The rythme is much better, probably because they didn’t had to cramp 2 chapter and a half in one episode. With only 1 chapter and a half they could smooth transition and add more contents. I hope the rest of the series will be more like this one.

    About Meiling and Wei, the first was out of the series for the Sakura Card part and she still manage to get her episode. As for Wei, he was always there, but we didn’t see him often, I would guess even if he come back just for an episode, we will see him the same among of time than for the Sakura Card part. ^^;

Scenario, Ohkawa; Storyboard and episode director ICHIMURA Tetsuo (a new name to the series); images director, Ooya Touji (seems new to the series, but well known among animators).

    • Thanks for the staff list! Always helpful.

And about Meiling, I have a hunch that she will come back with a new haircut. I’m just saying…

      Like

    • It turns out Ooya Touji is also the prop designer for the series and he is only supervising. The ones who do the dirty work are Kawada Izumi and Oka Ikumi. I don’t see their name on the first
