“Trick Trip Vacation” cover

With only a week away before its release date, the cover of Aki Nakamura’s mystery novel トリック・トリップ・バケーション ~Trick Trip Vacation~虹の館の殺人パーティー has been announced:

The cover features the same duo from Logic Lock Festival and the same art style too. I think it’s safe to assume that these books are all from the same series and this young couple of detectives will most likely be the main characters of the book that will be coming out in December, too.

  1. You led me to look up the cover of the first book on Amazon.jp to compare, and…wow, it did not get good reviews. Some of the reviewers remarked that the book bears more than a passing resemblance to mystery author Mahoro Furuno’s works, while the top reviewer said it’s just plain derivative (not necessarily plagiarized).

I know you, Sherry, and Cinzia were all puzzled over why Trick Trip Vacation hasn’t been advertised more, so maybe the problems with Logic Lock Festival led CLAMP to play down their collaboration with Aki Nakamura? (They might have signed a contract to illustrate covers for all of the books in this series.)

    • Hummmm I didn’t think it that way, but it COULD be the case.

My guess is that they will post something at the very same release date, but still, weird.

CLAMP should be working with well-known authors, but at the same time, someone has to mentor newcomers right?

I definitely agree. CLAMP was probably thrilled at the chance to promote a new mystery author’s debut series (and for all we know, Aki Nakamura might be a relative of a friend or something like that).
