The May issue of Nakayoshi magazine will announce that the 3rd volume of Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ will come out on September 13 and along with the regular edition, a limited edition will be released as well.
The limited edition will come with an exclusive original animation DVD (OAD) featuring an original story entitled Sakura and the two teddy bears. The OAD limited edition will cost 3480 yens.
The OAD staff will be the same as the upcoming TV Anime adaptation of Clear Card arc — CLAMP’s Nanase Ohkawa will write the script for it, Asaka Morio will be directing it and Madhouse will be animating it — a new staff name has been announced: Kunihiko Hamada will be in charge of the character design, who has previously worked as animation director for the TV Anime adaptations of Chobits, X and Card Captor Sakura, as well as the two movies.
Thanks to that announcement, we might consider it as the key visuals for the upcoming TV Anime of Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~, as it’s extremely likely that Kunihiko Hamada will be in charge for the character design of the TV series as well.
As several people have pointed out, in the original Card Captor Sakura TV Anime there were only 1 teddy bear (the one Syaoran made to Sakura) while in the manga there were two. This OAD will probably cover that part of the story in which Sakura will make her teddy bear for Syaoran, so that the TV series can be more faithful to the Clear Card arc manga once it begins.
Now, regarding the key visuals for the anime, I think the illustration itself is too glossy, too polished, but I know that anime illustrations tend to be overly produced (which is something personally I never liked). It also looks like her head is a little too big for the rest of her body… at least it looks a lot better than the more recent Card Captor Sakura anime illustrations released previous to this.
This is gonna be fun!

I won’t write it enough this morning, but these are all such GREAT NEWS!!
I had no idea waking up this morning that I would get to see a first view of the visual, and OMG, an OAD included with the upcoming volume 3!!
NOW, that’s what I call a real interesting extra to put together with a Special Edition! 😀
With a title like “Sakura and the 2 teddy bears”, we can pretty much all guess what this will be more or less about hahaha~
The question being, will they simply animate the 2 last chapters of volume 12, or will they come up with something different? In both cases, this is the very first totally SxS themed short ever produced, how sweet! XD
Big expectations here!!

And about the illustration style, I’m not too worried at the moment, these sort of things can change so much… I’d really need to see an actual media to pass a judgement on it.
All in all, she looks very cute and definitely a bit older than she did in the previous series ^^

Yeah, I know these illustrations aren’t to be judged. They usually don’t reflect the actual anime style 100%.

Out of all the countless anime pics released for the 90’s series, many were just…meh! you know? ^^;
And about her head being a bit big, I think perspective might have something to do with it?
We’ll be seeing it ‘soon’ anyway … 6 months! XD Hopefully they will share a teaser during the summer? (we can always hope)

Hahaha right? We were talking about that they would soon run out of great things to put with the limited editions and now this? Who would have thought?
I don’t think it’s gonna be essentially the last two chapters of the manga. I think it’s gonna be more like what happened to Sakura during the time she was away from Syaoran.

Good point, I just realized I was fixated on the fact the anime crew might be desperately trying to tie up the 90’s series with the 2018 one, but truth is, this is an extra that comes with the manga, and it doesn’t need or have to to be related to the anime series that comes after it in any way.
If they are animating things that CLAMP aren’t planning on drawing in the chapters, like the time in which SxS were apart, this would be a VERY welcome addition to the story!

With the success of the Clear Card act, I’m sure they have enough money to make a great great great anime ! The animation back then was one of the best, let’s hope they do the same here ! And also for the design…. Pleas keep it men-friendly and don’t make it “hardcore Shojo style” X)

I have talked about this in any channel possible and I’m still hyped by this morning wonderful news….I seriously had an hard time calming down to post everything without making a mess, I was hyperventilating!!! X,D
Anyway, the more I look to the visual, the more I think “how cute”, it’s true that it walks on the edge of being “moe”, but not even that much, really. Madhouse is a serious animation studio…I’ve seen some screenshots from their Chihayafuru anime and it looks pretty realistic, and yes, that “glossy finish” is pretty much only in the illustrations, while the anime itself has got that thing way less..
Now I’m waiting for the whole chapter 11 to be out, to talk about it!

Man you’re totally right, while I’m in the whirlpool of the hype everything seems so good to me…and then….recently the same happened with Sailor Moon Crystal, but I was quicker in recognizing the shitty animation…I’ve probably grown up a bit from the Tsubasa Chronicle days XD But this time I’m pretty relaxed because of all the good premises…

“Shiny” was what I was expecting for the new anime, since that’s basically the look for all popular series now. It’s not my cup of tea, but I know a lot of fans are going to love it.
If it weren’t for the production of this OAD, Vol. 3 would probably have come out in July based on the serialization schedule, right? …I wish we had the option of ordering the regular edition early, ahaha.

Yes, I talked about this with Cinzia. We would definitely be getting volume 3 a month earlier I think. I think we are going to end up with a lot of manga material all queued up for a tankoubon release!

So neat! The practice session before the real thing I guess, so we will see whether rusty or still up to their game the voice actors and animators are. ^__^
Nice that we won’t have to wait until January to find out. Also, if this one’s financing works well, I would expect others. Maybe one every three books? One per year isn’t too greedy, right?
As for how they will pull out the second bear into the mix, seeing Sakura has her middle school uniform in the promo picture and since there was already a departure scene at the end of the anime…
Maybe on her way to her first day in middle school, Sakura’ll fashback Xiaolang’s second departure, after the second movie (because yeah, he needed to head back to Hong Kong that time too or else, no faithful reunion). I expect we will see a lot of characters, a bit like the CD comic back before the first series.

I think there should be more OADs too… like, side-stories! They will definitely want to have special editions for every freaking CCS volume released, so more OADs is very possible, I think!

I am screaming because this is such good news and such a wonderful special edition! Not to mention, the absolutely gorgeous video preview! Though at the same time, I can’t help, but be a little sad cause I have this feeling that the OAD won’t be compatible with the DVD players in my region. 😦
