BLOOD-C #2, more

RAW version available here | Subbed version by Underwater fansubs available here (I was waiting for their release to make the post).

Impressions (spoilers ahead):

– Seriously, Ohkawa, almost an entire episode about cute songs and food? BORINGGGG! Give me some PLOT!

– That cafe dude Fumito looks suspicious…

– The Motoe twins are adorable! They’re my favorite characters so far =)

– Their school uniform doesn’t match the school or the city at all. I mean, the uniform is very dark, with chains and dark colors, while the town looks bright and so peaceful… it looks rather off (why would such a school have such a uniform?)

– The town where the story takes place is weird, there is only one establishment for each thing and like they said, it looks abandoned. The fact that they mention that sort of thing makes it looks very suspicious, as if it’s a relevant information (otherwise there would be no need to mention it). It’s as if the town doesn’t exist for real…

– Bizarre creatures: SO unappealing. I wonder if the “C” in BLOOD-C stands for Creatures? Where are the vampires? O.o

• GATE 7:

CLAMP drew a new GATE 7 illustration for a poster that came with the debut issue of Shueisha’s semi-annual magazine JUMP SQ. LaB that went on sale on July 15:

I am getting strong X vibes from it! Loving all the belts!

• XXXHOLiC:

Kodansha has finally announced a release date for XXXHOLiC’s post card book. It was first slated for May, but a release date was never announced until now. The book will be called XXXHOLiC POST CARD BOOK and will be released on September 6. Price is still undecided.

An artbook for XXXHOLiC is also slated to be released soon but there’s no release date yet.

  1. Re: BLOOD-C

The preview for the next episode says that we’re gonna find out about the “secret” of Saya’s family….. we’ll see… maybe we’ll get some actual plot.

Your favorite seiyuu is the Touya look-alike that Saya has a crush on? Thanks for the blog link, there’s a bigger pic of the drawing CLAMP did in PRODUCTION IG’s wall XD

I’m very disappointed with BLOOD-C so far. GATE 7 is starting to get more interesting with the new pretty characters but I hope they introduce another manga series soon enough (new or old).

Yes, it’s the Touya look-alike (too bad for me that there’s nothing going on between the Touya look-alike and the Yukito look-alike XD)

And yeah, I hope we get some plot u_u

The Yukito look-alike seems to have a crush on Saya xD it’s the typical love triangle portrayed in a very unoriginal and uninteresting way.

Is this really Ohkawa writing here? I’m starting to doubt that…

  2. I gave up watching Blood-C after the very first episode. There are many much more interesting shows in this season (Ikoku Meiro, Uta no Prince-sama, even Mayo Chiki), so I’ll see opinions on the internets to check if this thing improved, because for now it is very poor.
I can’t agree with you about the twins – they’re bizarre to me. I mean, even the twins that end each other sentences are a bit spooky, but those who talk same things the same time… They’re creepy. Chiho and Chise were much, much more adorable.
Gate 7 poster is awesome. Truly awesome.

    • I see their creepiness too! But they are cute to me, maybe because I’ve seen a video of their seiyuu and she’s adorable xD She also hosts the radio show.

You do the right thing on not watching this if there are more interesting shows out there. I will keep watching until the end because I just can’t not watch it being a CLAMP work and everything, but I have to say that I am very disappointed.

      • Oh, I agree that their seiyuu is really nice, although I only knew her as Sakura from Street Fighter and that nun from Sora no Woto, and now my mind will be connecting her to this eerie choir of Blood-C’s twins. On the other hand, I disliked Doumoto’s voice in Kobato., but started to love him after some more shows (such as Arakawa or Angel Beats), so I won’t be prejudiced against her.

Yeah, I know that you are reading and watching everything CLAMP makes and it is a thing I am counting on. I had many similar thoughts about Kobato. as you, so I am waiting for your opinion on Blood-C as a whole to check if I would like it. We could still have different tastes on some parts of it, but your judgment is something I rely on.

  3. I too am disappointed with Blood-C and I’m hoping it’ll get better soon or I’ll drop it. I’m already thinking of picking up other series that look interesting like No.6 or Dantalia if Blood-C doesn’t pick up the plot. I love CLAMP and though I never watched anything from the Blood franchise I loved the first illustrations that came out for this and was like “well, if it’s CLAMP, why not?”, but if it keeps like this… I can’t bear another silly song about weather and weird desserts.

Besides. WTF with Yukito-lookalike and Touya-lookalike not being gay for each other Dx that silly love triangle is so cliché, I want to die.

The Gate 7 illustration is gorgeous, I love the contrast of colorful Hana against monochromatic Masamune. I’m really loving Gate 7, I love history and the Sengoku period, so this story is perfect for me. And I love the historical characters dressed in modern clothes. It’s fantastic. I’m really looking forward to the next chapter.

    • My thoughts exactly about BLOOD-C. The promotional drawings CLAMP did for it looked very nice and dark, but the anime looks so silly o.O

I wish I could know more about the Sengoku period, I think I would enjoy more GATE 7 =/

      • I probably wouldn’t watch if it wasn’t CLAMP labeled and if I hadn’t seen those gorgeous promos, so I’m absolutely let down by these first two episodes. Enough with the songs, Ohkawa! And the pacing is terrible, the pointless conversations at school or Saya staring at the dog seem to drag on forever and the actual “stuff” lasts just a second. Who knows, let’s see how this “Kisaragi family secret” goes and I’ll think about whether it’s worth watching or not.

  4. I think I’m alone in liking this episode. . .
I think in some ways, it’s a continuation of episode one as an introduction. Also, Saya’s weird. But she acknowledges her weirdness, which I think of as an improvement. We also get a lot more information on her from her reactions. Her relationships with her father and neighbor and classmates.

    Also, I’m thinking . . . SPOILERS FOR BLOOD +:
Her unique reactions could be pointined to the nature vs. nurture theme from Blood+, where Saya was also rather weird and dere dere towards humanity and the “natural” world, and vicious when it came to other vampires (remember her reactions to the Shift, anyone?) The episode says her mother faught demons before her. While this could mean she’s actually a normal human (maybe) it still doesn’t rule out the possibility of vampirism, as in Blood +. Her dad seems human enough, but he may not even be her real dad, or he could be a chevalier-like creature. Even if he was both her dad and human, it still might be possible for humans and vampires to have children in this verse.

When I think of C’s Saya’s personality in ep. 2 verses early +’s Saya, it doesn’t seem THAT out of place. Saya was very clumsy (in spite of vampiric and sports-related athleticism) but that could be from a decision to not drink human blood. +’s Saya was the same way.

But all speculation is for nothing is C’s Saya isn’t a vampire.

    • The Songs

also, I wasn’t annoyed by the song in this episode like I was last episode. Mostly because this episode establishes it as a kind of daily ritual for her, and the ability to continuously make lyrics based on her mood and the things going on around her marks a certain amount a talent if nothing else.

She just might have picked up the habit from her mother or someone by being raised as a human.

I will keep watching it, hoping it gets better for me. Great thing that you are liking it! I wish I could like it as much as you do =)

But so far it hasn’t caught my attention, if it weren’t for CLAMP, I would have dropped it by episode 2.

    • I’m sorry >.< I am not trying to bash it or anything, I am being honest with my feelings about it @_@

I out of anyone else would really love to love it, it's hard for me to accept the fact that CLAMP failed to amuse me. When I do, that's because they really failed =/

  5. I’m really unimpressed by Blood-C so far ;__;
Some seriously awesome event needs to happen for us to forget the boring 3 first episodes (I say ‘3’ because from the preview I saw, it doesn’t seem like anything extraordinary will be going on, though I suppose we can always hope).
xxxHolic postcard book isn’t listed in amazon.jp yet, unless I’ve missed it, and I’m surprised they still didn’t announce a release date for the artbook, is it still for 2011?
Thanks for the news! As usual 😉

  6. I guess a lot of people are expecting not only the plot but also more action. I just fear on how CLAMP will take on this being 12 episodes only with a movie coming along next year. Anyway, I’ll just keep watching this in 4 more episodes since there are instances that the real story started on the 2nd half in some shows. I guess we need to be more patient.

Yeah, this episode has the same pattern as epi 1 but whatever. For me, I learned a lot of here like Fumito (possibly he could be filling in David’s role in Blood+), Tokizane (filling in Haji’s role) and Tadayoshi (possibly filling in George’s role). I’m not so sure on Tadayoshi but because his voice actor having roles of dads who will end up dead, it’s possible that he will go on the same route and it could change Saya.

Oh, what “C” stands for in the title? Some people speculated that it means “CLAMP”. XD

  7. The Gate 7 picture is so pretty. I always loved CLAMP’s artwork, that part of a reason why i’m a fan of them 🙂

I havent watched Blood-c yet but i have it for my ptw list 😛

  8. I don’t know if I’m right (probably not XD) but I’ve always thought the C on Blood-C stands for “CLAMP”

I adore CLAMP (even though I’ve been hating them recently for all the rushed endings ¬¬) and I love the Blood franchise but for some reason I don’t have a good feeling about the two of them together…

    • I thought the C in Blood-C stood for CLAMP as well….it’s not? :O

And the twins remind me of Maru and Moro from XHolic. XD And a little bit of the Hitachiin twins from Ouran. XD
      :/ Even if the secret of Saya is revealed next episode, there’s…about 9 episodes left, since it’s a 1-cour series right? If the pacing continues, the ending will either be rushed or… dare I say…boring…D’;

I had the same feelings as yours for the first episode, and I have not seen the second episode …but your impressions are scaring me XD
I loved the promotional illustration, ans I can’t wait to see the new illustration for the DVD edition… but really good illustrations but bad anime is pointless, no ?
I hope it would improve in the third episode >-<

I love the twins too ♥

  10. Ok sorry for the ignorance, but is that guy from Gate7? i have just read the first chapters (by first i mean the first 2 or so xDD) Ciel Phantomhive just came to my mind *O*

  11. This second episode’s pace is also quite slacky, the early part of the series would have benificied of extra plot lines, like more stuff about these vampires and less songs about every day stuff. ¬_¬

    > That cafe dude Fumito looks suspicious…

Indeed. ^^; I wonder if he’s not some ennemy agent or something.

    > The Motoe twins are adorable! They’re my favorite characters so far =)

Probably because they remind you of my sister and me! XD
On my twin point of view, they are lacking differenciation, but this series isn’t written for twins, I’ll let my braind on the coat rack for this element.

    > Their school uniform doesn’t match the school or the city at all. I mean, the uniform is very dark, with chains and dark colors, while the town looks bright and so peaceful… it looks rather off (why would such a school have such a uniform?)

The chain is off, but the colors and cut are elegant. Well, maybe it’s a bit too urban, and a more classic sailor fuku would have been fittier, expecially since that’s what the heroin wore in the original movie. And adult characters wear more classic clothes.

    > The town where the story takes place is weird, there is only one establishment for each thing and like they said, it looks abandoned. The fact that they mention that sort of thing makes it looks very suspicious, as if it’s a relevant information (otherwise there would be no need to mention it). It’s as if the town doesn’t exist for real…

You’re may be on something, I’ll keep that in mind.

    > Bizarre creatures: SO unappealing. I wonder if the “C” in BLOOD-C stands for Creatures? Where are the vampires? O.o

Well, in all fairness, as long as these creature do feed on blood, they qualify as “vampire”. If I remeber well, in the original movie (I didn’t had time to watch the 50 epoisodes TV series), the vampires were humans turned into monsters (or was it monster hinding among human under desguise?), so it’s not too off from the original plot, even though these creatures are quite uninteresting so far.

The Gate 7 drawing is lovely! There is indeed a strong X vibe. ^_^

And I’m glad to heard about xxxHolic postcard and artbook, these project probably got delayed because of the earthquake mess.
