Kobato. manga to end next month

As we all expected, the Kobato. manga will end its serialization next month. The final chapter will be published in the August issue of Newtype magazine, out July 10.

The information comes from CLAMP-NET.COM.

The 6th and final volume of Kobato. will be released on July 25.

With this, CLAMP will have only one series to work with. This will hardly remain for too long. CLAMP is known for working on more than one series at the same time, they said they get easily bored if they are working on only one series.

Question is, will one of the their 3 works on hiatus be finally resumed? Fingers crossed!

Either way, I’ll happily wait for whatever CLAMP brings next =)

  1. Kobato it’s been going on for so long now, and so slow… I’m kinda happy it’s finally ending. Altought I love Kobato., I’m exited about the possibility of Clover, Legal Drug and X coming back (yeah Clamp, eight years later and we still wanna know what the hell Fuuma’s wish is!!!) But with the things that have been going on in Japan, I have my doubts about them picking X again…
Thanks for the news! (It’s been a while since I commented here last time, I didn’t know I could comment under my FB account)and sorry for my poor english =)

True that. Since 2004 and we only have 6 volumes. It’s a pity, Kobato. could have been better if it weren’t for its magazine issues.

  2. Why am I always happy when I hear a CLAMP manga is ending? Oh, yeah, it’s because I still have hope that GD will come back some day.

I know I sound like a grumpy old lady though XD

  3. I really Really hope it won’t be like Kobato with 10 pages a month or something. (what was the issue anyway?)

I love Clover, and there are 2 more volumes…. hurry up and get that over with! So is X, at most until the last major tarot, which is 3 volumesish? grr All of them magazine issues.

  4. So it will be the end of Kobato, not that it could go much further. I wonder if it’ll end like the anime.

    As for what’s coming next, X X X X !!!!!!!! I want X!
Let’s go Sorata, it’s your turn to die! *devilish smirk*

They’ll prebably resume Gouhou Drug as well, Mick is not working on xxxHolic anymore, she needs a series. Well, I cross my fingers.

Beside, they may start some new works for Kodansha somewhere this year, I wonder how many months they’ll be on break. Let’s see…

Between MKR and CCS, they had a single Nakayoshi issue on break.
Between CCS and Chobits, there was two months.
Between Chobits and xxxHolic, there was three months of break.

So they never took too long before starting a new series at Kondansha, less than half a year, xxxHolic ended on February, they already had four months of break. They’ll probably take more time because they started Gate 7 and they could be working on directly to tankoubon Clover release right now (ok wishful thinking here ^^;).

    • My bet would be Gouhou Drug too. Nekoi has definitely too much free time in her hands now.

True that! Love CLAMP’s workaholicism =)

  5. Wow! After Tsubasa and xxxHolic, it’s nice to see that CLAMP is back with middle-sized series!

Now, I truly hope they’ll continue one of their work-in-progress series!

  6. Wow, I haven’t found scanlations of Kobato in forever so I was wondering what was going on in the story (I prefer not to read just translations, just doesn’t flow right for me), wonder how far the YP editions are. Anyway, more Legal Drug please! I just got like, three other people in my Japanese class addicted to it so we’d all like more!

    • Not sure how the YP editions are, but there hasn’t been any Kobato manga at online reading sites because of copyright issues, I think.

But you can always find them being scanlated by Fail Manga 🙂

      • I’ve seen a lot of YP titles taken down online (not that I blame them) and I had assumed it was because of the copyrights. And I’ll survive without scanlations I think, I’ll just read the last chapter translation and then wait another year or two for everything to come out in the US, thank god for short series I suppose?

  7. Ah, poor Kobato. Another CLAMP title not given the decent ‘all loose ends tied’ ending that it deserved. One more chapter is just not going to be enough. 😦
Still, I’m hoping that they resume Lawful Drug too and this time, keep the story simple so they can end it with dignity!

E AGORA ELAS PRECISAM TIRAR GOUHOU DRUG DO CONGELADOR.

  9. I’m sad; I like Kobato! But it’s okay. I hope they finish Clover first actually.

As for X/1999, I’m sorry to sound mean guys, but CLAMP themselves said they had to stop. Ohkawa HAS the ending written, but was not allowed to publish it. I honestly doubt they will EVER finish it.

  10. No, I don’t want X back. They will kill everyone I love and I don’t want it >__<
I already made my head canon for X and I don't want them to change it.

And I hope they only work in Gate7 from now on because Gate7 sounds like a great story to be told and I want to see more of it. They're doing a great job and if they manage to keep it as strong as it is now for the next 10 years, I will be happy with that.

Does any of it involve Sorata and Arashi enjoying their lives just like in Hanshin? If so, I want in. XD

I’m really going to miss Kobato. It feels as though the story didn’t really get a chance to develop as much as it could have.

The anime had a lovely conclusion, especially since it didn’t choose to include the underdeveloped plot involving the consequences of if Kobato elected to wish to remain with Fujimoto and felt mostly episodic, but consistent.

(I’m saving my luck for something a little more critical at the moment, but if I had to place my bets, I’d say Legal Drug has the best chances. I’d really love X, though, and then Clover.)

      My thoughts exactly.

My bets are all on Gouhou Drug too, out of the 3 on hiatus.

  12. As much that I want X back, Idk if any publishers are willing to get it again since until now, Japan is still recovering from the earthquake and the nuclear crisis. *dodges bricks, bullet time-style*

So, it’s either Legal Drug or Clover that may continue.

  13. I think with the end of Kobato, Clamp may start a new manga, this one may be a X like manga in whichi Watanuki may reappear.

  14. new manga ?

I think Clamp will make a new manga in the same way as X that is to say with Watanuki and maybe Syaoran as secondary character, maybe the events that Yuko talked about will happen

  15. They may get bored, but when they have fifty things going, I find that their stories always lose steam by the end and then they have some weird endings. I like CCS’ ending, though.

Well, I’m glad to see they’re finishing another series, though. 🙂
