XXXHOLiC Rou Adayume OAD, plus (Updated)

You can watch an online streaming of the XXXHOLiC Rou Adayume OAD (RAW version) here (thanks shaoron88 for letting me know about it!).

I watched it and, though it’s lacking subtitles, I thought it was a complete let down. What did you all think about the OAD?

Update: DVD ISO torrent.

The OAD jacket features a new illustration drawn by CLAMP which can be downloaded here (thanks for providing the link).

Kodansha has the cover of the XXXHOLiC Guidebook, which will be released on March 17:

In view of the disaster that hit Japan on March 11, CLAMP members posted messages in their official website to confirm their safety. Thankfully they are all safe. My thoughts are with those in Japan and everyone related to them.

  1. I admit I also expected a little more from it but all in all I didn’t think it was a complete let down D: I thought it was rather cool. Watanuki’s voice got deeper in this OAD I think and sounds 100% like Lelouch from Code Geass now XD I loved the intro spoken by Watanuki, it gave me ghoose bumps. I also thought that Watanuki’s aura changed a lot. He isn’t as cheerful and caring as before anymore. I mean yeah it already changed in ROU but for some reason I thought his aura is rather cold or let’s say coldER and more uncaring in this OAD D: it might just be me though.

  2. Video not working

But I was also assuming being let down by the OVA when I heard about the plot. Is it me or Clamp does not want to animate their manga anymore? Even though Ohkawa was behind Kobato’s anime, the ending was completely different, the latest Tsubasa OVA ended with even previews about upcoming events, and the xxxHolic Ro OVA… did they at least explain that last line from the Ro OVA in which Watanuki hears a recording?

oh! that comment was about the video. At first I thought it was a clever answer to the comment about CLAMP’s ova lol

Sorry~, yeah it was about the video on that certain site.

As for your question, I don’t think there’s anything that relates the paart where “Watanuki hears a recording”.

About the recording part, I meant the previous OVA which ended with Watanuki hearing a recording from *everybody knows whose* voice saying “I’m back Watanuki”. Was this explained in Adayume? I was really looking forward to that. I’ll try to watch the OVA if the video works again

I could finally watch the OVA. I gotta say that it could work very well as a regular episode, but I’m pretty sure most weren’t expecting some kind of recap of the series from another point of view. I think the staff teased as saying that Yuko’s and Himawari’s were going to appear as they only did it in flashbacks… By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Domeki ended up getting married with Kohane (who wasn’t in the OVA!!!)? It’s just something I speculated as some characters commented in the last two volumes of the manga. Well, those are just my thoughts.

Yeah, Kohane’s the bride, and Watanuki hesitated to accept the invitation letter first. Watanuki wanted Doumeki to say something to Kohane to her for him, but Doumeki told him to tell her personally because she’s calling later (which was not animated).

So it’s confirmed, right? I checked that scene and those were Domeki’s and Kohane’s names

  3. I’m kinda disappointed with this OAD. I don’t know, I was expecting CLAMP might answer some of the unanswered questions but yea, we’re talking about CLAMP after all. What answers? XD

Though, its HOLiC one of the anime/manga that I’ll watch it no matter what happens.
I hope it’ll be subbed soon.

Also, I wish they showed Yuuko-san a little bit more :/

  4. I watched parts of the ova, i’m waiting for the subbed
but from the looks of it it seems ok i just wish it answered some of the questions for the xxxholic ending.

off topic but the kobato manga looks like its heading the same way as the anime version, I really hope that isn’t the case.

  6. about this OAD

xxxHolic Rou: Adayume, could this be the last OAD of xxxHOlic???

If that’s so, then I’m very very sad about it… I’m expecting for Yuuko to come back, I miss her!

Though that’s the whole point of the ending. Watanuki learnd that Yuuko will never ever return to him, and he knows he will never see her again, but he still waits in the shop for the mere chance to meet her again in what form (reincarnation, or stuff like that etc.)it might be.

  7. I rather liked it. Not exactly what I had been hoping for (I assumed it was going to pick up where the other Rou OAV left off), but I wasn’t disappointed. I found it to be a lot more satisfying than the last chapter of the manga (I hated that with a passion)

  8. I thought the OAD is supposed to be like 40 minutes, why is it only 28 minutes? Yeah, I agree it’s a let down in some cases. I mean, Kohane and Yuuko really got snubbed out (there’s nothing about her except her voice in the OAD)

    • The site tends to load video slow, and since it’s a site created in Japan (where earthquake happened), internet tends to load slowly, so you need to wait for it.

  9. Thanks for the update ^_^ Although Im happy the oad came out I was more worried about clamp during the tsunami and earthquake as well as many of the innocent citizens there. Im so happy to hear they are safe.

  10. Another source

Here I found http://hi.baidu.com/animetg/blog/item/28073126eef1fbb04623e882.html a download link for the OVA. It’s not pretty heavy, but it’s still without subtitles. Days ago I commented I was let down by the OVA (considering it was advertised for 8 months more or less), but I liked it as an episode. It made wish that Holic Ro should be a 13-episode TV series, rather than OVAs to adapt things from the manga. “Adayume” is my favorite theme from Suga, so it would be cool for the regular opening. It also made me wish for more Tsubasa OVAs, no matter if it is original content. But well… wishing is free for now. Maybe if we all go Watanuki’s shop we can pay for that haha

  11. Watched the Chinese sub.

So Kohane eh? Not that bad a match. Overall not too happy about the xxxHolic ending, feels like CLAMP is just growing tired of this particular project, losing direction on where they want it to go, and so they cut it off. So INCOMPLETE to me! Oh CLAMP and their unfinished/hurriedly finished projects.

Speaking from a shipping point of view, the whole my entire line of descendants will forever be your faithful servants is not unexpected from CLAMP, and totally hits all the right spots for me. Reminds me of the Sengoku Date lord and his Kojuurous. Even after the father passes on, the son continues to keep his lord in faithful company. This sort of loyalty and family ties goes way beyond just romantic shipping.

  12. About the OAD
Oh my god! It’s Doumeki’s mother! *shock*
    Oh my god, so it was a full love square in the end Watanuki loves Himawari who loves Doumeki who loves Kohane who loves Watanuki, so wicked. ^^;
It was to see some critical moment from Doumeki’s point of view and we get to know what happen with the last dream ballon in the end (I forget there was still one left, silly me ^^;)

That still left plenty of questions unanswered though…

    The guidebook cover is nice

And i’m glad Clamp are all right after the earthquake, even though the odds were rather long for them to be in trouble, they are not usually in the North of Honshuu, but you never know.
