Today marks the 7th anniversary of X’s hiatus. 7 years ago, the last chapter of X was being published in ASUKA magazine, after that, the series went on a hiatus that remain until this day.
If you have twitter and want to moan over, come and join us in our (pointless) cause, tweet anything using the hashtag #CLAMPWeWantANewXChapterNow. Since it’s 7 years, the idea is to make 7 tweets, but feel free to do as much as you like xD
Do we intend to get X back by doing so? No.
Do we intend to get into Twitter’s trending topics? Hell no.
Then why doing it? Because it’s fun =D
The idea came last week when I was talking to flowright about 7 years without X and we thought “let’s do 7 tweets of silence on twitter!”, but you can’t obviously do “silence” tweets so instead we came up with that hashtag xD
It’s really just for entertaining purposes, no greater intentions =)
You can check on real time everyone’s manifestation here.
It’s been that long already? 😦

IMO, I’m beginning to doubt if CLAMP will continue X/1999 considering what just happened in the past months such as the earthquake in Haiti and in Chile. And no thanks to that movie 2012, I doubt that CLAMP will ever continue unless they renamed into X/2012 😛
Who knows maybe they will released a new chapter in 2012! LOL

“we can’t have this or that in” as a reason won’t work anymore. Other ongoing mangas have wiped countries off the world map, and are causing massive districtions in Japan in the name of a new/pure world or just annihilation of mankind… or just for the lulz. So — yup, what X had was a child’s toy; comparing to current series. A pretty one, but still a toy. But just as have said, it’s defenitly not going back to O-pure-Asuka
And LOLOLOL @ the rename, they would so love that.

But as far as my Italian goes (which isn’t far, I’ll be honest) it just confirms that THE END IS NEAR. Not to be pragmatic.. but we’ve known this for 7 years now. The end is IMMINENT! But that has nothing to do with whether it will be concluded or not. The email you screencapped is from November 2009…
Cristian, tbh, we’ve seen this claim before so forgive me for being skeptical, but last time someone posted this nothing happened, either.

Then if you don’t mind, please specify for MY benefit, and preferably with links.
What I understood is that the reply only stated that the end of the series is near, not that there was any agreement that it would be concluded.
My biggest question I guess is whether the Italian publisher(which one is that, again btw…) have the rights to X or the rights to distribute X.

I think the e-mail also said that they talked to CLAMP’s manager…
And I’m pretty sure the Italian publisher only has the rights to distribute X.

Re: The end of X is near!
Well Apparently Vic Whatshisname also talked to CLAMP and asked if Kurogane and Fai were gay and they said No. Which isn’t to say it isn’t true,(well, in that case it wasn’t…) but this is all a little… vague and mildly suspicious and too convenient. When things are too good to be true, they usually are.
From my angle, I’m questioning why CLAMP’s manager be talking to an Italian publisher about something CLAMP themselves have no control over (the publication of their book which is legally owned by Kodokawa). Wouldn’t CLAMP be involved in those business deals, or are their royalties being paid by the company who owns their product… in which case they would be informed, wouldn’t SOMEONE be promoting it, in JAPAN?
It’s possible of course, just… ODD enough to be questionable and sits unlikely with me.
Besides which, an anonymous comment and then a ‘confirmation’ from an account which looks fresh and newly made…(or at very least like a sort of sock-puppet account) just isn’t a very reliable source of information.

Re: The end of X is near!
too convenient
THAT is true. The Italian publisher might as well be saying that to overexcite the readers and make them buy their translation.
As for CLAMP having control, I think they have. I e-mailed Kadokawa myself and they replied saying that the reason X is on hold is because CLAMP has too many works ongoing (at least at the time they had) and they also needed to find a magazine to run it, but that they were willing to publish as soon as these issues are solved. So it sounded to me that it depends more on CLAMP side instead of Kadokawa.
As for the anonymous, she e-mailed me so she’s not so anonymous anymore ! hahaha xD

Re: The end of X is near!
Well, it’s not anonymous, because the name/email is in the screencap 😛 But(and this is maybe why my mind jumps to suspicion so easily) I have a half dozen gmail accounts under different names, for different online dealings 😛
Plus, you know, the sock puppet account confirmation. And the date of the email from 2009… how ‘near’ is near while we’re asking question? The 10 year anniversary?
I think a big part of my suspicion is the CAREFUL language. It doesn’t say they’re going to finish the series. It just confirms the end is near. Which is 100% true. The end has been near since volume 18 was published, and even nearer since 18.5 was published… 4 years ago with Animerica.
If I were buying the rights to a series that had been on hold, and wanted people to buy all 18 volumes, I would be very careful to hide the fact that it’s unfinished and has no declared/planned finish date.
ANd your email with Kadokawa brings up an interesting point.
I mean, are we really 100% sure why X even went on Haitus to begin with?
Did CLAMP put X on Haitus because of OMG EVIL EARTHQUAKES AND THE END OF THE WORLD ARE CAUSING EMOTIONAL DISTRESS TO OUR READERS… or did it go on Haitus because CLAMP is OMG TOO BUSY. Or did they go on Haitus because Kadokawa wanted them to change the ending and CLAMP pulled BOTH their series to work on manga for other publishers.
You’ve gotten the Kadokawa side, but they’re the publisher and CLAMP can’t exactly say they’re evil jerks who wanted them to change the ending and they refused so they pulled both their series. And Kadokawa can’t say CLAMP are evil jerks who can’t comprimise their artistic vision.
(These are hearsay/randomness, I don’t know what’s true anymore). The creator is too busy is kind of a very diplomatic, very non-confrontational, very Japanese way to reply to that sort of thing and diffuse what could be a public relation mess.
Looking at the Italian publisher’s site(I’m not linking them in case this whole thing is actually a ‘clever’ viral marketing strategy to get people to their site and buying their books) they’re a fairly small press publisher that doesn’t specialize in Manga (as opposed to Tokyo Pop… which does specialize…)
So… I don’t know. Doesn’t lead me to believe in rainbows and unicorns and The End of the World.
(which makes me sad…)

I think it’s a mix of all 3.
The earthquakes and disasters did have an influence because Asuka got letters from readers saying how affected they were by reading X because it reminded them of their relatives who died at such and such earthquake. So here is my theory, when things were about to get worse in X (bloodier and gorer and more disasters), the Asuka editor had to interfere and say “oh-oh, I think this can be a problem to our readers”. The next chapter WAS scheduled, but it was postponed TWICE before officializing the hiatus, which makes me think that CLAMP actually drew the next chapter, but it wasn’t “approved” by the editor.
They might have suggested to CLAMP “if you want to stay in Asuka, you’ll have to change the ending because Asuka is a magazine suited for such and such audience who likes to read stories like this and that”.
But CLAMP didn’t want to change the ending, and I think, ultimately, Kadokawa didn’t want it either, but at the same time they couldn’t make an exception for CLAMP.
Since CLAMP had just started Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC, I think they must have thought “okay we have 2 new weekly mangas now, let’s put X aside for a while since we still need to figure out a way to publish the original ending somewhere else”.
That’s my two cents on the matter.
Kadokawa did not mention earthquakes or natural disasters in my e-mail response, they were straight saying that they are in constant negotiations with CLAMP, but (at the time) they are busy with other mangas and even if they were free, they still need to find a magazine to run it in.

Re: The end of X is near!
The news about X’s end were spread at Lucca Comics wo took place in october 2009.
Back then it was said (and mind you, I say ‘said’ which means there’s nothing written yet apart from replies to fans who asked the editor directly) that the Italian editor would begin printing X in autumn 2010 and that he had been assured that they would manage to print it till the conclusion of X (read: vol 21 instead than just vol. 18) which sort of gives you an idea that, before the Italian editor will get to volume 18, CLAMP should have at least resumed worg on X, if not finished it.
Now, assuming the next volumes of X will be of the same chapter number than Vol 18 we need a total of still 22 chapters.
Following this reasoning, assuming X were to be printed monthly in Italy (generally manga are printed monthly here) CLAMP would still have lot of time to continue it before the editor would get to the end if ‘X’ in Japan will be printed on a weekly magazine and much less if it was printed monthly as before on Asuka (X 18 was printed on the magazine in 9 months).
But X in Italy could also be printed bimestral, trimestral or even quadrimestral (it’s not that common but not impossible) stretching further the so called soon.
Also, since they hadn’t started yet to print X they could stetch time further postponing the reprinting of X as Dark Horse had been forced to do with Mangettes (and here there were dates given) or even cancel it should they get wind X won’t be continue by CLAMP, after all.
So, to end this long message, I’m not saying they’re lying or making market strategy (though it’s the first thing that came to my mind) but that, so far, everything is too vague to be blindly trusted. We can hope this is a positive signal but it’s nowhere near definitive.

I’m here keeping my fingers crossed in hope X will be continued but, by now, I’ve learned before raising my hopes up, I’ll need CLAMP themselves to officially say ‘we’ll print the new chapter of ‘X’ on this magazine and in this date’. They too had been declaring to many times X would be continued soon but so far we still have to see a new chapter.

Re: The end of X is near!
Okay, you aren’t completely wrong. I don’t know who’s the one who posted the comment, I know that the guy replying should be a staff member of an Italian editor because it’s a new that had been given to more than one people and told in anime conventions also.
The problem is said editor is about to reprint ‘X’ in Italy.
Now, while this can explain why they got hold of words from the Japanese editor and manager, it might be a damn commercial dirty trick to sell a reprint of X.
And no, I’m not telling the Italian editor (called J-pop by the way… they’re printing Kobato here…) is blandantly lying but merely using what we consider a burocratic trick.
If you’ve in plan to continue/do something but you don’t give a date the word ‘soon’ can be pretty meaningless here.
So they can have asked the manager and editor and hear CLAMP plans to continue X in a near future (which is the same we’ve been hearing for 7 years) and report it with a sentence that, while implying it should be a rather close future, can’t really tie them to an exat date.
Generally an acceptable time for that ‘soon’ would be ‘in this year or, at worse, in the next’ but again, since there’s no date, if this doesn’t happen, although ‘soon’ turns into being a lie, they can’t be blamed for it because, hey, they didn’t give the exact date so it’s all interperation.
True is in anime conventions approximative dates were given but at long as there’s no written I will consider them as rumors.
I hope this makes things clearer.

Uhm, no actually if you translate the mail it say they had been reassured the series will be completed soon. As in ‘the authors will soon continue it till the end’ not as in ‘the series is close to its end.’
I’m not really capable to litterally translate it any better but, if you say somethig like that quote in Italian it means people is about to start working to end something.
The problem is there’s not a starting date for the beginning of when the authors will resume working for it.
Either way, for not Italian speakers, that’s the closest to a litteral translation I can make…
‘Dear Christian,
yes the Japanese editor and the artists’ manager both reassured us that the series is about to be completed soon.’

Well, that would be great, and I would be up there first in line to buy to a copy the conclusion, and I’d be deliriously happy for the closure. I started reading X more than 15 years ago.
But it’s been 7 years on Haitus, and I didn’t see any specific language to indicate anything than what we already know. Again, I’m pragmatic and disillusioned so I’ll be more than happy to be wrong.

Well, CLAMP now has much more time since TRC has ended & holic is monthly… so they don’t really have anymore the excuse ‘we’re too busy to continue X’… and here an editor claimed CLAMP’s manager assured it that X would be continued soon… (not that I trust this but, each time I hear it, I can’t help but think it would be cool if it were to be true…) but still CLAMP isn’t saying anything officially so, unless they’re waiting for the end of the wrld planned in 2012 I’m starting to lose hope…
All considered if they really have no serious plan to continue X I wish they would at least be honest and tell us to give up on it but I know it would be a bad commercial idea… -_-

My idea was to accept waiting until the end of 2009, because continuing the story in 2009 (as it’s all about 1999…) would have been okay, kind of like an insider gag. But we’re in 2010 now. I am not sure they even WANT to continue anymore. I LOVE Clamp, but they are producing all these “kawaii” looking manga (Chobits, Tsubasa, Kobato etc.) which are very successful commercially, so why continue art manga like Clover or “old” series like LD or X? I don’t think I will ever get to now how X was supposed to end.

Okay people, I have read the conversation about the Italian editor and went to check what the state of things is with the French and German publishers.
I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT IN 2008 and 2009, the French publisher has re-launched X in “double volumes”. Click here: http://www.editions-tonkam.fr/serie.php?id=102
(The covers of some of the “old” edition are here: http://www.editions-tonkam.fr/serie.php?id=84)
This MIGHT be a good sign, but as Tokyo Babylon and other “old manga” were re-edited as well, it could also mean nothing at all. The first translations of X and TB were horrible, so maybe they wanted a better version on the market. But why should they do that now that X doesn’t reach new readers anymore (imo)?
There is no official news from the German publisher and their fan community last discussed X about half a year ago.
So, not so much info, I’m afraid v_v

And now i read the manga, i read the end and i have to say, this end is more beautiful a differens with the anime, is very precious but…missed the kiss…in the anime don’t lack the kiss but in the manga yes, this is the because i want a continuation of Cardcaptor Sakura, and other because is the feeling i feel when i watch Sakura. If someday i feel sad, i see Sakura and my state of animated change very rapid, i forget my sadness and i feel happy…i know, this is an anime but i don’t undersntead why make me happy, is an anime!, jajaja, i’m crazy but if make me happy, it’s OK.
