So far, I think this was probably the episode with least manga elements and most original elements?

I expected Kohaku’s introduction to be somewhat more grandeur, maybe causing a bit more of a shock in Ioryogi? But it’s fine I guess.

I’m trying to place this into Wish’s storyline, I would say Kohaku is in the midst of trying to grant Shuuichirou’s wish? I don’t think this is the reincarnated version of Shuuichirou. This could also be kind of parallel story with no relation to the plot of Wish. We need to wait more.

It was very nice to see the scene with Kohaku controlling water, for me it was this episode’s highlight. The scene was totally taken out of Wish, it was like seeing Wish animated!

Kohaku’s voice annoyed me a little (but not so much) because he is supposed to be super cute and it sounded so forced at some parts (for me anyway xD).

I didn’t expect Ushagi to appear in this episode! I like the little noises that it does XD Although I didn’t expect, it was nice to see it because the plot thickened some more for the anime-only viewers, it might be tiresome to see Kobato’s attempts to heal people without some kind of deadline. I also expected Ioryogi to be more (even more than he was) shocked upon Ushagi’s appearance.

I do hope that the scene with Fujimoto and Touya dressed as giant Ushagis is still going to happen.

It was obvious that Kobato can’t heal Kohaku’s heart so easily. I assume it will only be healed once he grants Shuuichirou’s wish?

Too bad next week there is break =/ I like this anime so much! And what the hell Kobato is doing wearing the same pink dress? What about “there will be new costumes for each episode”, huh? Bring Mokona to the staff right NAO, LOL!

  1. They described Kohaku as a girl in NewType. Even though they added she really has no gender, they described her as a “boyish girl” ;;; And well, I can’t imagine any masculinity in that creature with such a face and such a voice. I wish they had made it a bit more androgynous.

    …I found Ushagi super scary @A@;;

I’d also like Kobato to change clothes, but I think the only clothes she’ll wear are those that appeared in the opening, and maybe in that order? It’s a pity… But I like her more with this dress than with the green one they invented.

The scene with Fujimoto trying to take the tickets from her was so cute! So far Fujimoto + Kobato interaction scenes are pretty good.

HAHAHAHA I know what you meant! It’s the little noise he does XDDDDD It’s like a maniac, monkeyish laugh or something.

I thought it might be like that, but I hope not, argh.

      I second that!

  2. I think the Wish storyline is supposed to be before Hisui and Kokuyou appear. At the moment.

I’m still holding out for an appearance by Touki and Ranshou…and Ryuuki, I guess! The poor three characters who don’t even have a colour image to their names.

I loved the sound Usyagi made! Like lots of childish giggles combined! So appropriate.

But, yeah, the story in this episode surprised me a little. I won’t know more until the subs come out, but it seemed so…disconnected.

But I’ll agree with the water scene stealing the show. It was such beautiful animation!

      I wonder if we’ll get that far…

Me too! XD it’s kinda freak, I expected it to be cuter, but somehow I like it.

  3. i still can’t believe kobato’s anime break next week, i will miss that so much!! It was a good episode, im afraid because, it looks like the anime will fe far away from manga’s plot. Kohaku’s magic apperance was great, but same as you i was expecting more surprise from Ioryogi… But i liking the changes, except for one thing… THE DRESS! seriously, i like that pink dress but 3 chapters wearing that thing? PLEASE NANASE, CALL MOKONA TO THE STAFF!

    thanks for the link chibiyuuto-san

  4. I like this episode best so far 😀
My only complaints are that Kobato to wear a new dress and stop saying “Kobato ganbarimasu!” all the time. That phrase annoys me. 😦
And I found Ushagi super scary. He always kind of crept me out, but his they really turned his creepiness up to eleven in the anime. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I actually find it kind of appropriate xD

    • Maybe Madhouse thought Ushagi should be somehow scary upon seeing Ioryogi’s reaction when he saw it in the manga XDDDDD

I don’t like seeing the same clothes either. But maybe it’s better than original ugly clothes.

    • I’m guessing “Kobato ganbarimasu!” is supposed to be her anime-original catchphrase – much like “Mokona Modoki mo doki doki!” was for Mokona in Tsubasa Chronicle. I agree – it gets annoying lol

I’ve always loved Ushagi…but the laughs sound rather demonic lol
I always imagined them as making a more bell-like sound…voiceless but angelic in a way, y’know? hmmm

  5. I’m feeling weird about this whole Kobato thing.. watching the anime I’ve been wondering, exactly where’s the clamp factor in it?
other than maaya sakamoto singing the opening song, it feels like a kids/shoujo show so far with hardly anything wowish 😐

should I keep on watching? is the fun part still to come or is this “Kobato”‘s whole concept??

  6. I vaguely remember Kohaku and Shuuichirou (sp. check) going out for a day at the park and riding the ferris wheel, at least it was amazingly familiar and I’m just too lazy to get the volume out and check it.

I think it’s accompanying early WISH manga and I definitely recognize the water spell/prayer bit which was literal from the manga.

I think the girl deserved more wardrobe, but it’s cheaper this way.

Oh, and I hated Kohaku’s voice, it was too girly and feminine, I didn’t mind a feminine voice, I just wished it could be bordering more on androgyny.

And I don’t like neither the OP or ED, it just doesn’t grow on me.

  7. If this is during the time Kohaku is supposed to be healing Suuichiro, then why does he/she (I’m not sure about gender), look so young?!?! I personally think that this is after Wish’s storyline with the reincarnated Suuichiro.

    • Kohaku looking young? I’m pretty sure angels don’t ever age, so always looked the same. However, he must be looking young due to the anime character’s design, that’s all ^^

  8. Since the storyline from this and the manga is different, I’m slightly struggling to view this independently from the original. (like the annoying thought of hey! it’s not suppose to go like that! lol) Otherwise it’s really good lol.

    • Oddly enough I don’t feel that way about this particular adaptation. It feels so well-structured.

The only thing so far that bothered me a little was the girl from the previous episode. That was too original for my taste xD But even that didn’t bother me that much.

  9. I do hope Kouryuu will appear, indeed everything looked so peaceful XD but I guess they didn’t want to introduce so many new characters at once. This is still the “Kobato.” anime after all.

  10. LOL true, Kohaku’s meeting with Iorogi seems… too normal. LOL Probably because Kohaku’s state is famous in Heaven already? Imagine everyone is talking that ‘there’s an angel who tried to grant a wish from human who doesn’t have one’ or ‘there’s an angel who fell in love for a human’. LOL I so can imagine Kobato is famous for another reason aside from her gorgeous singing. Just like Iorogi, seems like he’s famous for a certain reason (why do I have a hunch that it’s violence related? LOLOLOLOL)

  11. I squee-ed a bit upon seeing the lottery tickets as I thought they had the Gohou Drug motif on them X3 On reflection, it’s probably just be an ordinary leaf, alas!

I really like this episode. The scene where Kohaku controls water was lovely and the Kobato and Fujimoto scenes were adorable! I loved how Ushagi was ever so slightly creepy, I’ve been worrying that Kobato. would give me cavaties but elements like this keep it well balanced.
