Beautiful splash pages! I like the first one more, but it was nice to see Fye’s long hair in the spread ^^

Fei Wang goes all Fuuma “I will grant that wish *grins*”, because apparently he knows Syaoran would give anything to go back in time and reach that hand.

Fei Wang was about to do it but it looks like Sakura mama interfered? A little well-deserved pause for a squeal:

Why did Sakura interfered for? Just so Yuuko could speak to Syaoran or actually grant that wish for him? I have the impression that it was only to speak to Syaoran, and maybe “create” Watanuki. I might be wrong, but I am taking this conclusion basing on the fact that in the end, Syaoran was in Fei Wang’s “side” while Watanuki was on Yuuko’s.

Maybe Sakura (through Yuuko) tried to warn Syaoran of the consequences, but even so he wished for that, and that changed the paths completely (or not, we never know how far characters like Yuuko and Clow see the future).

Apart from that, we all know what happens afterwards, Syaoran was cloned, reacted against it and was sealed inside the tube. But the magic circle was still Sakura’s when time was rewound, I just don’t understand why in the end Syaoran “agreed” to go to Fei Wang’s side unless if I think Fei Wang himself granted that wish for him. I guess that will be explained later.

We finally get to know Watanuki’s origin!!!! So he is another version of Syaoran, the version that took his place after the time warp.

I kind of expected that, but not like always, only as of late. And I didn’t know all the details, but ever since Syaoran’s scene at Yuuko’s shop looked the same as Watanuki’s, I started to think he was a parallel version of Syaoran. Then we had the splash pages, the eggs, and all the other clues.

It makes perfect sense to me, the space needs to be filled somehow.

Wait, does that mean CCS!Syaoran and CCS!Sakura are dead? In that universe, maybe. But I don’t think CLAMP will let them die in the end.

In the end, we’ll either find out they were never dead (that Watanuki’s memories were altered or something) or they really were dead, but since this is a parallel version of a time that was never supposed to happen, maybe something will happen that will “fix things up” and their future will be altered also and they’ll no longer be dead.

Watanuki has a wish, which is the same as Syaoran’s wish (well, they ARE the same, after all XD) we don’t know what that wish is, and Watanuki gave up his memories for the sake of that wish. It must have to do with his parents.

By the way, I have a theory that the reason black Mokona knows how Syaoran papa’s food tastes like is because Watanuki’s memories are stored in its earring. But I could be wrong of course xD

Another thing. So we go back in time, but Syaoran is stuck in a tube and the moment where he was supposed to grab Sakura’s hand is long gone. I mean, weren’t they 7 when that happened?

In the meantime clone was sent to Clow and you know the rest very well. He eventually wakes up, go to Tokyo and you also know the rest very well…

My point is, he went back in time with a single purpose: to grab that damn hand.

My theory? Remember how the Clow country they are in right now is in a loop? Exactly near Sakura’s 7th birthday? Ahhhhh…!

Either way, it’s SO nice to get freaking answers. That’s one mystery left to be solved (finally). We also pretty much saw why Fujitaka and Nadeshiko are not in the altered version of Clow country (because they knew about Sakura’s seal and had their future altered).

I have other theories and other things I would like to say, but I’ve written too much for today XD

  1. I must say… I feel sorry for Watanuki’s existence. Now the I have to re-read TRC again and again to understand it more ><

    Oh well, CLAMP did a good job on giving us such headaches …

  4. I’m a little pouty that Watanuki (who is my second favourite character of all time and is only FRACTIONALLY beaten by Subaru) is a false Syaoran. Don’t get me wrong, I love Syaoran (CCS, R!, C!…) but Watanuki trumps them all.

    And I will be VERY pouty if it turns out that CCS!Sakura and Syaoran are dead. What, couldn’t CLAMP stand having a series that didn’t ping at at least a 4.2 on the Angst Scale?

    At least things are starting to become clear in this arc again. The twisty storylines are confusing until you read a whole volume worth of chapters (amusingly, I understood the Celes arc clearer after ‘reading’ my Japanese tankoban when it arrived rather than following the weekly scanlations! The completed events slot together nicely).

    I’m not sure if I want Mokona to have Watanuki’s memories or not. If Mokona does, then I wonder if Watanuki could ever go back to a life where he is ‘Sakura and Syaoran’s son’-especially since I think it would mean him sacrificing the life he now has.

    Gah, so much to think about.

    • I totally understand your point. But if it makes you feel any better, I’m pretty sure that CLAMP wants him to exist for real as an own character rather than “the other side of Syaoran”. Yuuko keeps saying that it all depends on Watanuki’s choice.

      I think in the end he’ll be able to co-exist with Syaoran and just be himself (he is quite different than Syaoran, I see very little similarities between them).

      And I can imagine how a good re-read should help understand things better! I need to re-read both of them as well. When you read weekly (and with breaks), your attention is always fragmented.

      Well, we know for sure that his memories are stored in its earring. The question is, did Mokona have access to those memories? XD

  5. Well, since I can’t actually see the chapter(I guess my computer’s messed up since it would take at least two hours for it to load), I’m gonna have to go with you on it being awesome.

    I was actually very disappointed with the color page, and it’s freaky since I told one of my friends that it’s gonna be ugly and it was so…

    But anyway, the chapter. I’m going to have to actually read it to get these answers, but it’s good to know what I do now. Actually, knowing me, it’ll seem boring, but that’s me.

  6. This is the first time I fully read and reply to your commentary of the chapter ^^ I really enjoy it ^__^

    For the Sakura part, that may most probably be true since Yuuko said it in a way of “do you still choose for me to grant that wish”!? Normally Yuuko just go straight to “let me grant you that wish then”. As for how far Yuuko and Clow Reed see the future, it is quite certain that they have seen pass this point [and most probably know the choice Syaoran make already ^^] or else… the whole series would not even exist since Sakura-hime would be killed by FWR’s seal… and there wouldn’t be any use to create Mokona(s) for the journey ^___^ so in the end, FWR NEVER really want to kill Sakura with that seal but only to MAKE Syaoran make that time-rewind choice.

    I believe that’s part of the consequence he NEED to pay… since Yuuko said explicitly that “you wouldn’t be by Sakura’s side and your freedom would be taken away and you would only be able to watch…” I guess in a sense his freedom IS indeed taken away by FWR [though only there’s more for FWR usage for Syaoran other than taking away his freedom: he make a clone and such].

    *smile* all I would say is… Syaoran is tricked by FWR in believing that it is HIS fault and how when he went back he can save her. BUT, in the end, other than getting himself trapped in the tube and cloned up… FWR didn’t do ANYTHING bad toward Sakura until she will be 14/15 again and then change her memories into feather and spread across different dimension. And thus start the REAL plan of FWR to achieve his wish ^^ YES, you can say the black feather seal is only a detour

      I agree 100%!!! The mystery is, he needs to do this and that in order to have this and that outcome!

      I was re-reading Chapter 188, the one where Syaoran says for the first time that time was rewound, and they ask him if it was Yuuko, and he says it was! What I don’t understand here is, if Yuuko did the time warp, why Fei Wang captured him?

        Well… the feel I got from the chapter is that Yuuko practically GIVES “Syaoran” to FWR after he made the decision to grant him that wish!! Especially if we notice those consequence/price that she has mentioned [Yuuko: Even if you do this, you will not be able to be by the Princess’ side. // Your freedom will be stolen, your life will be placed in grave danger, / and you will be able to do nothing but watch. // Even so…]!! Those fit in quite well because he IS being sealed away by FWR after the time rewind and he IS indeed “watching” everything behind clone’s eye. I think being captured and sealed away by FWR ARE indeed part of the consequences “Syaoran” need to pay for the time rewind!!

  8. Dammit, Watanuki is like my favorite character and I don’t want him to go awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ;_;

    Because the fact that he’s just some Syaoran-placeholder can’t mean anything good for his continued existence.

    (Maybe his story will end with him deciding to stay alive and be his own separate person? Please don’t BAD END me again, CLAMP.)

  9. I never really got to finish reading xxxHolic after the fifth chapter, but man – after reading this one (or the spoilers, anyway), I started at 117 and got myself updated with xxxHolic.

    All those damn clues – now they made sense. Like why Watanuki’s existence was the rarest of them all…. I forgot whose name was it xD;

    I don’t think there’s any implication that Jr. “agreed” to go with FWR. It’s part of the price for his wish that his freedom is stolen…by FWR.

  11. I still have this belief that Touya inherently knows about the loop, he’s just not aware. It was really curious that Touya always called Clow the “former king” rather than his father. Chapter 33 sticks out way too much because it’s the last chapter where we see Clow Kingdom in “real time” (relative to the beginning of Tsubasa).

    Sakura mama is the most powerful magician in the world. Cross dimensional magic casting! Jr’s one lucky kid to have a mom like that. If only his luck extended to more hitsuzen related situations…

    YUUUUKO!!!!
    SAkura mama and Xiao papa are dead!!! my friend, this is a problem another thing out of place (Okawha’s mistake, there are many now)
    I cry for them in the spoilers!!

    Xiao jr is going to save Sakura NOW!!!
    he will grab the hand of Sakura when he is 14 or 15 not at 7
    with Fay and Kurogane to fight with him

    (well really he is 21 only a little less than Kurogane, but who is counting)

    Sakura mama place her magic circule to interfere and make Yuuko stay there and save Xiao of the plan of FWR

    FWR turn the time in his own benefit inthe way we now
    but Jr will have his oportunity only now

    and that is thanks sakura mama, Yuuko, Clow and Kimihiro
    Nadeshiko will not exit with Sakura in the new alternate future
    Clow will take the place of Fujitaka and he will be father of the clone!!

    and Yuuko and Kimihiro Sakura mama and Xiao papa are paying for all

    i think Kimihiro give away is memories in order to destroy FWR, who is the cause of their parents death, and save the universe, and the only way was give the power to the boys to find him in the stopped time he gives them

  13. One question, because Chibiyuuto, you and I are aggreeing on stuff…

    What does Doumeki have to do with all of this, because if Watanuki isn’t supposed to exist we’ve got a guy who is rather tied to him in the future..and i don’t think Shaoran would be close to Doumeki had he stayed in his own space in existance.

  22. Hey Chibi Yuuto! I’ve been reading your livejournal for awhile, and I’ve always appreciated your comments, so maybe you can help me understand this a little better. I thought I understood this past chapter pretty well (even though I haven’t really read XXXholic, so I’ll need to start on that), but I don’t get why everyone is assuming that CCS! SxS are dead? Is it because they know about Clow Sakura’s black seal too? And even if they do, didn’t Yuuko just say that Syaoran’s choice would change anyone who knows about the seal’s future, but not necessarily erase it? I’m just really hoping right now that CCS! Syaoran and Sakura aren’t actually dead, because that might be the only thing that could kill TRC for me! 😦

You know.. there are a lot of questions unanswered, I hope Clamp has a really good explanation for all this, but now I think more and more that CCS!Sakura and CCS!Syaoran are dead.. if you think of chapter 117 of XxxHolic, watanuki’s parents appear so to stop him from dying.. and then their speech is interrupted by Haruka.. and also there is something strange about watanuki’s glasses that happened twice in the series, well at first I thought kimihiro let Yuuko to erase his memories in order to grant his wish, but then with that scene of his parents arms with blood.. i just dont know, i wish sakura is alive,I can only think that maybe sakura and syaoran sacrified themselves to save watanuki and-or syaoran from something.. but sakura is supposed to be the most powerful magician T.T, at least she’s more powerful than FWR because she interrupted his spell ;P!

  25. Funny, when I read this chapter I didn’t think it was Sakura interfering, I thought it was Yuuko. Remember that she has Sakura’s staff now? That might mean that Yuuko no has Sakura’s magic, and since she isn’t allowed to interfere, with someone else’s magic she can. That sounds like CLAMP logic to me, and I would like to point out that there are some serious problems with Watanuki being CCS Sakura and Shaoran’s child, like, aren’t they dead now, and not of the Holic world?

    Oh, and I want that splash page as a poster, or at least a background.

    I maybe is for save Watanuki’s life… Maybe Watanuki will be born from that egg or something.

    And maybe he gave Yuuko his memories to save his parents but he wouldn’t be able to see them again..

    But just like you said… now I’m terribly worried!!! does this mean that CCS!Sakura and CCS!Shaoran are dead!!?? ;___; CLAMP just CAN’T do that!!!

    I put my hopes in Yuuko… maybe she gave Watanuki false memories about dead parents… I Wish ;__;…. Having CCS!Sakura and CCS!Shaoran dead is Too Cruel… even for Clamp ó_ò

    XXXHolic167 spoilers destroyed my brain about Watanuki’s and Syaoran’s existences 😦
    As Yamisakura said above, they only gave part of the truth in the TRC chapter…

    That said, your optimistic views are quite refreshing, my mood and views have been going deeper and deeper down those last days ^^;; The future of the main characters looks bleak ;_;
    I think I get influenced far too much by TRC/Holic ^^;;

  33. Wow… that’s an interesting revelation about Watanuki.

    I agree with the idea that the whole of xxxHOLiC has been in order that Watanuki NOT disappear, so that he can have his own existence without Shaoran losing his place, and hopefully so that his parents will end up not dead in the end.
    As for why Doumeki’s important: First of all, Watanuki and Doumeki’s ‘blending’ (as Kohane called) gives Watanuki a foundation in the world that is different from his original existence – he’s not just tied to Shaoran, but to others. Hopefully, that will mean that he will be separated enough from the his purpose that he will be able to continue existing after (if) everything goes back to the original/correct timeline. To be his own person, he must value his own existence. That’s also the purpose in meeting and connecting with many other people, but Doumeki is the most important there.
    I also remember Yuuko saying something a while back to Doumeki about ‘not hesitating’ when the time came, but darn it, I can’t remember where it was….

    All the same, awesome information!

      What if Yuuko telling Doumeki that, and Syaoran’s reluctance to grab Sakura’s hand are related?

      I mean..it kind of makes sense..in a skewed sort of why.

  34. hey chibiyuuto, i have a question! Do you think you can help me with the answer? :b

    I don’t understand where the real sakura’s soul went to. If fei wang duplicated sakura, her real body disintegrated, her replicated body is with fei wang and her replicated soul died in japan country.. then what happened to the real sakura soul? Especially since he managed to replicate sakura, shouldn’t he know the whereabouts of her soul?

    Would love some revelations from you! (sorry if i missed it alr cos i only recently caught up with trc from chapter 140 smth ever since i started uni. Thanks!)
