XXXHOLiC OAD Announcement !

e-hon reports that the limited edition of XXXHOLiC #14 will be available with an Original Animation DVD to be released on January 16, 2009.

Nanase Ohkawa, Tsutomu Mizushima (XXXHOLiC director) and Shunsuke Tada (Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations director) are among the staff members, the cast will be the same and the animation will be done by PRODUCTION I.G.

That’s great, great news! Now I see what Matsushita was talking about a Tsubasa AND XXXHOLiC big project.

And Ohkawa will be writing the script, this shall give a nice closure to both Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC animes.

Also, volume 14 comes out in January, so you can expect the serialization of the current volume to be dragged until the end of this year. Patience everyone xD

EDIT: radiomacrossing-san noticed that the e-hon page states that this is DVD “Part One” (Zenpen – First Part). Which means there’s at least one more OAD coming either with XXXHOLiC or Tsubasa.

    but either that means that the series is gonna progress at a snails pace from here until january or there are a lot of chapters to volume 14….wasn’t the series gonna end this year…which it would..but it’ll take a while to release the last volume…which seems to be 14 @_@ er….

      Well, it doesn’t seem to be the very case. I think it’ll most likely end at the beginning of 2009, like, April/2009.

      Who knows, this might be the very last volume.

      • *falls over* there is a scene of impending doom about Watanuki’s words in recent chapters. He actually finally says he wants to live… -.- which is never good for CLAMP creations…but tsubasa isn’t over yet… @_@

        If it ends next spring it sort of runs the new series out next spring with the end of this series…they’ll still be fresh on everyone’s minds (well those of us who follow online rather than wait months for our languages offical releases) >.>

      • Thanks for the info. According to the e-hon information, it says that the DVD is Part One (Zenpen – First Part), so there will be at least two DVDs (could be three if there’s a Chuu). Or could the second DVD perhaps be included with a Tsubasa volume (maybe the last)?

        As for a 15th volume, I’m not so sure if there will be one, looking at the past few volumes serializations and releases.

        It looks like most books take about 20-ish weeks to completion (including breaks and double issues). Book 11 took 20 weeks to complete (10/30/06 – 3/12/06), Book 12 took 25 weeks to complete (4/23/07 – 9/3/07), and Book 13 took 25 weeks (11/12/07 – 4/28/08). The tankoubon come out about 1-2 months after the last chapter.

        The chapters composing book 14 began on 6/9/08. Since the release date of book 14 is 1/16/09, we can expect the last chapter of this volume to be around mid-November or mid-December. Looking at its current run for this volume, between 6/9/08 and 7/28/08 (the next chapter) Holic will have run five times out of eight issues. We have about 17 issues left for “2008” (around the end of November) to fill up around seven more chapters, but I suspect there will be a lot more breaks.

        Just a geeked-out observation.

          Indeed…. It could be either a second XXXHOLiC DVD which would come in volume 15, or “Part 2” would come in Tsubasa’s volume.

          Not at all, I love these kinds of analysis XD

          It is true that lately one tankoubon is taking 20~25 weeks to be made. But CLAMP could speed their pace in the last volume, making volume 15 in 12 weeks of serialization.

          I think Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC will end together, but I’m not sure if Tsubasa will end in January (that would be great, though!). Do you think it can end in 17 chapters straight?

OMG! *___* I can’t say this is a surprise, though XD I was kind of expecting something like this :3 (just yesterday I told that, judging by Ohkawa’s comments, that great project were probably TRC+HOLiC OADs showing an alternate ending, different from what the manga will show, and closing both projects in their animated versions… not joking, that’s what I said! XD).

    • Yes indeed, Ohkawa and Matsushita both suggested and hinted this, I was hoping Tsubasa’s almost-confirmed-OAD was going to be announced firstly, though ^^

      This shall be fun! Last time we had only TRC but now both XXXHOLiC and TRC will have it (unless the TRC announcement is about XXXHOLiC’s OAD XDDDDDDD)

      That’s what I think too! That way anime and manga shall end together =)

  9. Yeah… is that the only big news or is there still some big news for tsubasa going to be announced on the 17th as planned? Sorry to add to the many who are already asking, but no one has been answered yet, and for Tsubasa-only fans, this news is somewhat dissappointing… (I’d still watch an XXXHolic oad, it’s just that I was under the impression it was going to be tsubasa-centered news, I guess…) *too obsessed for own good*

      I’m not sure yet, I think the obi news will be different and related to Tsubasa. This XXXHOLiC OAD is surely related to Tsubasa in a way, but I think the obi news is actually Tsubasa’s own OAD. I’ll definitely post the obi here as soon as it appears.

    • Yes, but it might not be the “only” one.

      Matsushita, who works at the rights department at Kodansha and is one of the people who made the Tsubasa OAD possible, said that we would get a big project for XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa.

      We’ve seen XXXHOLiC’s big project, but we have yet to see Tsubasa’s.

        • I think it’s very unlikely that they’ll animate Infinity, Celes, Nihon and Clow arcs. They’ll have to make choices and give it an original ending, to end it along with the manga.

          We might get Infinity, you shouldn’t get disappointed before the announcement =) Think by the bright side, at least the anime will have an ending.

    • say it because of my will, but this time I believe it’s not original one.

      first of all- if they did want to make original ending, why didn’t they do it with the anime and just finish things off? OAD it’s a quite risk to take – nobody guarantees that the OAD will be sold well

      second of all, who said that Holic’s anime needs an ending? for my, the anime so far gave as a nice closure of things..

      that’s why I think it will be the manga one ^^

  19. If its just another anime-original mess (don’t care if CLAMP are supervising the story or if they are drawing the animations by hand themselves), I’ll just pass.

    Damn, all this waiting for nothing. Talk about shattered dreams >_>
