XXXHOLiC◆Kei #7 Review

– Yuuko doesn’t look nearly as god damn sexy in a swimsuit as she does in the manga xDDDD
– Neko Musume already came wearing the hat that Yuuko gave to her in the manga. There are some significant changes in this episode since you all know the water Watanuki draws from the well is for the Tokyo country in Tsubasa, but since the XXXHOLiC anime has no links with Tsubasa’s, this arc demanded some adjustments. In the manga Neko Musume was feeling hot and Yuuko gave her a cooling hat in exchange of taking Watanuki to the well. Here, Neko Musume came to Yuuko’s shop (wearing the hat already) asking to remove the water from the well. She gave Yuuko an egg as price (which will play a significant part later in Himawari’s arc).
– Too bad we don’t see much of Neko Musume acting like a cat (no playing with Yuuko’s hair?).
– Do we have a new soundtrack here? Sounds cool.
– Oh, the woman at the window looks creepy…
– Watanuki makes the promise with Himawari, the promise that plays a significant part in this episode and will play an even bigger part in the series’ climax…
– Even Yuuko went to the house, followed by Production IG’s horrible fashion taste, of course.
– And then, we found out the reason why Neko Musume asked to draw the water out of the well: to rescue the corpse of a baby cat. How sad and cute ^^
– God, Mokona is so annoying… I wanna kill that thing xDDD

Overall I liked this episode a lot. It’s so great to be back at the manga’s storyline, I really don’t enjoy original episodes. The script changes were well-managed, the egg had to find its way to Yuuko even though the Tsubasa links are omitted in the anime. Everything was tied nicely.

Neko Musume doesn’t behave much like a cat unless when she’s sitting, which is a pity. I don’t think we’ll be seeing her again in the anime, so while I really like her in the manga, in the anime her participation didn’t catch much my attention.

That was a nice episode, much better than the previous one in my opinion, and the preview from the next one looks very nice.

  1. Did you notice in the ep With the Dream breeder Yuuko was on the cover of the magazine she had been reading? She’s mostly covered up by Watanuki’s hand when he’s holding it…but she’s wearing the swimsuit from this ep. Which is why i remembered XD

Thanks for the commentary, now my question, have you seen if anyone is still subbing these eps, because I haven’t been able to find ep 6’s subs in english (or spanish)

and it’s a miracle Yuuko has not popped out of that swim suit… o.o

    • I don’t think that was Yuuko O.o it was a random cover girl, wearing a white bikini, I think ^^

      >have you seen if anyone is still subbing these eps, because I haven’t been able to find ep 6’s subs in english (or spanish)

      They haven’t released a subbed version yet, and I don’t blame them, episode 6 was the Mahjong episode, that episode must be pretty hard to translate ^^;;;

  2. Aw, I like the black Mokona! It is always so cracked-out and amusing (as opposed to the white Mokona, which is usually just worried for everyone and not cracked out anymore).

    • I don’t mind manga!Mokona, but anime!Mokona is so annoying to me u.u
I think it’s Mika Kikuchi’s performance, and the animators always distort Mokona a little too…

  3. Oh darn, I forgot they omitted the TRC link with HOLiC in the anime, and I was so looking forward to this episode! ;__; But, well, so long as the lady by the window is still there. I need to watch this!

  4. I was wondering how they were gonna go through with this season without the TRC crossovers…but a dead baby cat? That’s too cruel, even for Clamp! D: (Well, not really…)

  5. I think the woman at the window is not creepy as in manga. I kinda forgot why neko musume wanted them to get the water. (to rescue little cat, did that mentioned in the manga??)

    • She isn’t as creepy as in the manga indeed.

      >I kinda forgot why neko musume wanted them to get the water. (to rescue little cat, did that mentioned in the manga??)

In the manga is different. Like I posted: In the manga Neko Musume was feeling hot and Yuuko gave her a cooling hat in exchange of taking Watanuki to the well.

The water was for the TRC people. It was Yuuko who wanted the water in the manga, while in the anime it’s Neko Musume.

  6. I watched the episode today, and I agree with prettymuch everything you said! ^_^

I have one question for you –> could you tell me what is this? –>http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/4788/animepaperscansclamptulae5.jpg

I just found it today, and I was really shocked there was something like this and I knew nothing about it! I’ve been looking for information on this, but only thing I found is the name Majo Kan… can you tell me anything more?
I’m sorry if you already wrote about this and I didn’t notice… ^_^”…………..

Oh, and this is a book that CLAMP drew the cover and inside illustrations for. There are so far 3 installments and CLAMP drew for all of them ^^
      It’s a children’s book =)

      >I’m sorry if you already wrote about this and I didn’t notice… ^_^”…………..

Hahaha it’s okay, I did write about it but it probably didn’t catch your attention. I’m pretty sure that, if the author releases a 4th installment, CLAMP will be asked to draw for it again, stay tuned ^_~

  8. I really hated this episode. It is my favorite arc in XxX Holic’s manga… And the changes… It simply took all the charm of horror tale. It was not shocking to discover the woman conserved because of the industrialized food. The way it was told (and the changes too) took away all the enchantment of story.

I Hated the role of Neko Musume.

  9. The dead women story again. -_-
I feel as dirty as after I read the manga version. Ohkawa, dead corpse rotten as fast as they always did, the one who told you otherwise was making fun of you. No matter how much conservative you eat, you’ll drop dead before your body retain enough to conserve itself in the summer heat for days, just like you can’t eat enough sugar to turn yourself into living jam or enough salt to turn into living brine. And I’m not even talking about the insects, rodents, crows and other living being that should have been working on the corpse already.

Beside this, that was an excellent episode, even if I don’t like Sakurai much, it was well written. The drawings and animation was great, the seiyuu did a great job too. I admit I was thinking they would replace Kohane’s feather with Sakura’s egg, hince moving the Kohane’s part before the Himawari one, but it seems Ohkawa has something else in store.

Hahahah I don’t know how much accuracy there is in that supposed “statement”, but I have my doubts too.

Yeah, I really liked this episode. The changes were well-done =)
